Hey guys
so i think goin ahead with the purchase of a NT 86 sierra.
my plans for upgrades are a 5 inch lift using something like this http://www.puresuzuki.com/super_5.htm
just so long as its avilable in vic ? if not any simular kits around ? any one know prices ?? it sounds like it would be installable by a amature by its description anyone know how hard this would be ??
how much would i be looking at for some new rubber and rims . around the 32 - 33 size decent quality and sugestions ?
could i use the standard rims ?
just replace the tyer ?
Does anyone see there being a problem with it being a NT with this setup ?
if so how much work is involved for a WT dif to be put in .( BTW i have read all the threads in the bible on the matter so please dont just give me that link please ) i would prefer a responce refering directly to my situation.
thanks allot guys u continue to be very helpfull. Cheers

It was one of the first kits i had seen with a decent site that looked respectable. i had seen sruff around about them . the con i saw was a bad ride which i take it as they are too stiff .
then later i read it was caused by zooks having a SWB which isnt fixable or prob to expensive to ??
is there other kits out there i should be looking at that are avilable in victoria ?? a url would be awesome.
a bit off topic most the kits i see are for the samari i take it thats just a sierra with a diferent name becuase its from the usa ??
the type of driving will prob be just every few weekends head off for a few days prob fire trails water crossing that kind of funn stuff this will be my 1st 4x4 as i drive a 2000 suby liberty so have really no experiance with 4x4 or there ride quality .
but i dont mind it being a bit ruff im not lookin for a cruser type of 4x4 but woudnt want my cd player skippping ever 5 seconds either.

before spending money doing mods that you will regret I recomend spending some time in the drivers seat. Very few people seem to be happy with the calmini springover however I dont know if it a simple matter of putting different springs in to improve it. 33 inch tyres will be useless unless you regear the car you would be better off on your stock tyres.
But hey it would look cool
widetrack diff conversion isnt simple, you need to take the widetrack diffs apart, and have someone cut of your spring pads and then reweld new ones further inboard so as to line up with the mounts on your chassis.

u dont need to be a smart ass to me . i arnt posting here for critisim but help
i had read that i might need some dif gears in the dif ( i take it that is what u are talkin about .) tho im not sure
but i am prepared to do further mods if nessacary.
as for the looks yea i do think the stock tyers hight could look better.
would i be better off buying a WT tho i do like the deal i have atm on the NT seems good price and fairly nice ride. i was only asking about the WT conversion as it might be something i do in the future. this will be a project car for me .
thanks guys .

ur better of buying a wide track suzi first , it will save u a bit of trouble later on, first ya need to leran the limits of ur car before u realy start doing to much with it, as for mods your prob better of goin with a 2' spring and shackle lift then you can run sum 30" rubber u will be suprised were it will take you, that way atleast you dont have to worry about gearing for a while, and then u can decide how far u want to go with cuttin and moddin.
buggy time............
sorry wasnt trying to be a smart arse. you can fix the gearing by either diff gears (from a vitara) or transfer case gears. There is debate about wich one is better however I would get the transfer gears as the improve low range substantially. widetrack diffs arn't absolutely nessasary you could just run massive offset on your rims, or use wheelspacers. I think even the guys from nsw (who go nuts for spoa) will tell you that you wont get the full benefit unless you upsize the diffs (ie hilux diffs) The hardcore suzuki element in victoria probably is more 50/50 spoa and spua. I personally dont understand the nessesity a spoa set up in a zuke. when well setup a spua vehicle will go anywhere that a spoa zuke will but will do it without looking like its going to fall over.vicelore wrote:u dont need to be a smart ass to me . i arnt posting here for critisim but help

yes any made after that date are widetrack exept for maruti utes, which were narrowtrac untill 92 I think. They are easy to pick as they will have metal flares over the wheelsvicelore wrote:i would of thaught this is a easy question . i thuaght any made after 1988 are WT not correct ?

Location: Melbourne(East) or upside down in my zook on weekends!
Have you had a look in the classifieds?
I say chunkz in Lysterfield has advertised his WT that has a brand new soft top and already has extended shackles and 30' mud tyres - says it needs a new motor and clutch tough...might be worth a look if you can get another motor cheap
There's a few others in there too!

well yea it always cost money to fix stuff. how much depends on whether you have the skills or if your going to pay a panel beater. I couldnt speculate but panel beaters arn't cheap. personaly im the type who would go and get a can of paint from supercheap auto and be done with it, It depends on how finicky you are.

Patience is what you need, you have to remember that these are cars no longer made and were sold in limited numbers to begin with so they won't be every where for sale. You will have to take your tie searching for them and probably widen your search to further than an hour around Melbourne.
Ransom note = demand + collage
hey guys so thanks again for the help im goin to go look at this tomorow arvo hopefully wont be blowing a cyclone of smoke and ill be driving it home.

Hi Vicelore,
That still sounds pretty expensive for an 89 softtop. I'm in Adelaide and cars here are almost always more expensive than the eastern states.
I just bought a stock '93 hardtop in very good condition, great paint and interior, no previous offroad use (straight chassis, no dents in diffs, etc), only rust being four or five surface spots about 3-4mm diameter, engine running well, etc, but with 285,000 ks on the clock. Paid $3k which I think is a decent price for SA, but saw cheaper in Vic when I was looking.
For around $4200 you should be able to pick up something more along the lines of a 94 soft-top, 140,000 k's, A1 mechanically, and probably a few extras like CD player, bullbar, towbar or something like that. I saw three or four advertised in Adelaide over a two week period that were like this, but unfortunately they were all soft-tops ... I needed a hard top for security (used to carry work gear when not playing in the mud )
Don't rush into it ... do a bit of research on Trading Post, Cars Guide, etc ... ring a few people up and ask detailed questions about their cars ... keep a record (spreadsheet or similar is good) of these descriptions and the asking price so that you get a feel for what a car is worth.
Hope this helps...

Hi Vicelore,
Like some of these guys have said, be patient and for what you said your prepared to spend you will get yourself a good little car. Once you have it though, don't rush into spending on upgrades. Get it out offroad first and see how it goes, your driving style will help you decide what you need to upgrade first. Once you've worked out how far you can and cant go offroad, then you can work out what you need to do to achieve the results your after. As your driving progress' so will your need to upgrade, so take it slowly work out what you need to change first and you won't be wasting money on things you don't need, like the rest of us,hahaha.
