Hey guys. I've had a little hole in my fuel tank for a while (perfectly round hole, possible some form of drain plug) which I've been bogging with a bolt and metal epoxy.
Anyway, after about 3 months it eats through the epoxy so it's happened twice now that I'm stuck with a leaking fuel tank. I want to fix it for good and this is pretty much going to require me to remove the fuel tank and somehow get inside it.
What I need to know is what is involved in removing the tank and if you can then somehow access the inside of it from the top of the tank. For what it's worth, I'm running a 4AGE 20v so I don't know if this is going to make a difference to the tank being that my engine is injected.
Anyway, thanks for the help guys. I've searched but didn't find what I was after.

its simle just undo the 4 bolts holding the tank and drop it down 3 or 4 inches so you can reach your arm in and disconect the hoses and the wire conection and pull it all out. you should be able to take the fuel pick up out and reach in and put a bolt in the hole provided its not covered by the baffles in the bottom of the tank

Thanks RBZOOK. Exactly what I wanted to hear.
And about fitting a bolt, the bottom of the tank is only a thin metal and thus easily warped when attempting to tighten a bolt to the point that it forms a suitable seal.
And besides, I've already done this twice and even epoxied the bolt from the outside to make sure it doesn't come undone but the vibrations caused by offroad work have already managed to loosen the two bolts I've used previously. A bolt without a nut will never be permament and thus if I can get inside, I can get the bolt and nut (I'll use two nuts) so damn tight they should never come loose.

just wondering why is this hole in your tank
someone has obviously driled it in there for some reason they dont come like that from the factory in my experience
maby because of an in tank fuel pump?

Basically, on my first trip out 4wd'ing, after a few hours my mate pulled me up and said "Hey mate, there's fuel pissing out of your fuel tank!"
Lo and behold, there was a perfectly round hole in the tank about 2mm in diameter, however, no sign of a plug of any sort. As for the pump being in tank, very possible since it's had an engine conversion and likely has a different fuel pump.
Will this be an issue though? I still haven't tended to it as work has me home late but I plan to do something about it tomorrow afternoon which involved removing the tank and getting inside.

some early model zooks came with drain holes as standard in the fuel tanks. my tank has this. I thought maybe one of these was in your car. these bolts are closer to 10mm. sounds like you will have it fixed soon.Dee 4x4 wrote:
