Guys,
I took my spare wheel off the other day (had a side-wall blow out) and when I went to replace the lower bolt into the threaded hole it would'nt go back in. I then noticed that the bolt had snapped of inside the hole, and on closer inspection realised that the snap occurred where there was a large hole on the bolt, an obvious weak spot.
Why would there be a large hole through the middle of a bolt? Is this so you can lock your spare onto the rack?
Anyone know where I can get a replacement bolt, without the bloody hole?
The original bolt head looks like a typical wheel nut, so I'm after something similar so I don't have to get a spanner out every time I change a wheel.
Also, is the flattened platform on the rear axle (both sides) the correct jack point?
Darren

Bolt with hole from wheel carrier
Moderator: Tiny
The hole in the bolt is to fit a padlock through so nobody 'nicks off' with your spare.
If ya really wanna get rid of it, just find a standard wheel stud, drill out the existing hole, fit it in and then weld it into place. Then you can just use standard wheel nuts !!
This is all they have done for the top two mounting bolts for the spare !!
Cheers
