Mine used to go through heaps of cv boots (wound up for 2" lift)....the repco ones used to last about 6 months before splitting. I tried a set of genuine toyota boots, and one of them has only just split now after about 3 years. I'll be getting another set of genuine toyota ones put on again soon!

aftermarket CV boots for Mitsubishi Pajero are one tenth the cost of originals and last one tenth the time...have done two aftermarkets so far in 12 months, the originals lasted over 9 years!!

Therefore aftermarket CV boots are TOTAL CRAP!

Hi,
I work at a toyota dealership..the genuine boots are excellent quality but way over priced.
I went non genuine (made in china) and they have lasted 2 years now on my Surf.
$8 each!!!
Ive been off-road a fair bit with them too.
I have free wheel hubs, the frt end is wound up 2".
The only downside to the non-genuine boots are the quality of clamps they use.

cheers

Just looked them up because we are a bit quiet here at work.
$160 per shaft for inner and outer boots genuine.

but yep...they will last longer ;)

ive just noticed the same thing. while putting verything back together after replacing wheel bearings i noticed another split cv boot. this repco one lasted about 12 months. Last time it split i replaced both the inner and outer. inner was a repco one, outer from a cv joint (genuine supplier i think).

If the genuine ones last as long as you say i think their price justifies the quality. I'ts prolly the biggest pain in the ass job i've had to do so far since buying my 4wd. I think genuine is the way to go this time around. btw its a 86 4runner, 2in lift kit.

there are a few toyota tarago's getting around the coast as taxi's, dunno about other areas, but the taxi operators are using genuine cv boots as the aftermarket ones do not last 1/10 as long, and as you are all aware, changing a boot is a pain in the ass.

Boots from Downey Offroad seem to work ok.

Hilux boots are the same as US market 86-95 Pickups. They're about halfway down http://www.downeyoff-road.com/ChassisCo ... Train.html

They're EMP brand are a fairly soft rubber and have a strange smell. After being installed a year I can still smell them when I'm under my Lux. They come with a grease pack and metal clamps for only 15usd.

I've had them in on one side for just over a year now which is about 15,000kms and I drive with my hubs locked 24/7, a 1" bj spacer and some torsion bar crank. The other side has genuine Toyota boots and about 20,000kms on them. I find I usually rip my genuine boots around 20-25,000kms
