Just bought 03 4.8 GU and looking to put it on gas.
1.Are there different types of systems on the market? If so which is better?
2.What is the conversion going to cost?
3.What sort of fuel figures can I expect on petrol?

G'day bud
I got basically the same car, I converted mine for $2700.00 that was with a cash deal, normally would of cost $3300.00 and now that the conversions have sky highed, I bet you wouldnt get any change from 4k and they wouldnt be able to do it untill Xmas time. I tell ya If I had of held off 2 weeks I would of scored the 2k cash back, THANKS JOHNY, NOT!!!!! pissed I tell ya..
But yea, I would say 4k, and that if its for a normal every day induction system.... If you spend about 1k more you can get the injection system, which they reckon gives a better LPG eccon, but I have never seen one or heard much about them, but they are suppose to be the dux gux mate..
but yea the price is a KILLer..
I get around town normal every day driving 310km if I step on it it can be around 280km all city driving..
On the Hwy it isnt much better, I recon i could push 350-380km all HWY driving, but I havent confirmed that yet..
The most LPG i have ever put into it was 88ltrs, so in real dollars, that cost me $46.00 for the whole week driving, which I think is pretty good. This week was $26.00 (awesome)
If you want to get technical, the fuel ecconomy on gas is really BAD, but when you convert the money you save in to Petrol price, it works out to around 10.5lts per 100km, this is how i worked it out.
$15 per 100km on LPG, convert that to fuel price, $15 worth of fuel is 10.5ltrs at $1.42, so in that respect ANY BODY THAT OWNED A PATROL GETTING THAT FIGGER WOULD BE WRAPPED!!!!
ON Petrol
Ha ha ha, Fuel eccon, well there is NO fuel ecconomy, i think around town I could get maybe 150km out of 38ltrs, on the Hwy I could probably get 200+ but I dont want to run out of fuel because the pump will burn out and it needs fuel to re start, so unless you got a jerry can on you, DONT RUN OUT OF FUEL as the pump runs constantly (when on LPG)..
Now saying all that, the 4.8ltr patrol is a friggen MONSTER POWER HOUSE, it has so much grunt, I love it, it smokes man, lol.. really happy with the power. arrg arrgh arrrgh.....
As far as power is concerned, I love it, on LPG at the start there was a very large power decrease, im talking heaps, maybe 3/4 or more, I was a little PEEEVEEED as you would imagine, but I took it back to him complaining (as I do quite a bit these days) lol... because it backfired twice and bluew the snorkle elbow off the air box, this pissed me off as what if I wanted to go through a water crossing, BanG!!!! nice damage... also had stalling happen 30sec after start up...
anyway, took it in, he said you got any other probs (and I did) but it was all power related,, Long story short....
It left there 20mins later and it friggen hammered, NO LOSS in power that I can feel, but sometimes the power can come on in burst's as it goes through the mixure or somthing.. Not %100 sure why it does that but really it is NOT a problem, as it still hammers... I dont know what they done (or left off ) but gee it goes good..
DID I MENTION IT HAMMERS, lol..... suck it oil burners, chuff chuff....
I think the only draw back on the LPG conversion is the Petrol tank size.... 38ltr is just not enough... the main tank is what they take out and replace it with the LPG tank, SO if you diddnt know, you do now, BUT if you did know, I just confirmed it for you, lol.....
You can buy a long range SUB tank for $689.00, if ya real good, I got that quote deliverd...to my door... But I could afford it, but I recomend it if you do the conversion..
Any thing else you want to know about it.. Heres a pic of mine, picked up for a song....

Hey mate
The upgraded tank size is 78ltrs, so for 689.00 for an extra 40ltrs is KILLer..
Yes the gas tank uses the same gauge as the main tank, Mine is pretty much spot on, only that it doesnt go all the way full, it is about 1/2 way between 3/4 and full (when filled with LPG) and it stops - runs out of gas ON THE LINE.
But the gauge goes DOWN fast, lol...
I think the only thing that spoils it is the SUB tank light is on the dash 24/7. Im gunna pull that LED one day..
