OIL IN INTERCOOLER
OIL IN INTERCOOLER
HI GUYS I HAVE A GU 2.8TD AND I PULLED ONE OF THE HOSES OFF MY INTERCOOLER TODAY AND FOUND THERE IS OIL IN THE HOSES AND INTERCOOLER.
I WOULDNT SAY THERE IS HEAPS BUT WAS A LITTLE CONCERNED.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??? HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS HAPPEN???

This is one reason I have shifted the vent pipe to a catch can. This way you don't get the oil through the intercooler and also if you lay the truck on its side you can't get oil into the intake and cause serious problems.
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)
easy on the caps there. (stop shouting).
a catch can is basicly a can/filter that fits inbetween the vent and the inlet manifold. it seperates the oil which then drain back down to the sump (often by useing the turbo oil return pipe)
quite a lot tend to get fitted to surfs as there known for lots of blow by. theres keeps on the surf forum about it.
one thing to watch is to get a catch can that can flow enough gas. some of the ones advailable in shops are to small and can cause crackcase pressure to go to high (caause the gas can't get out fast enough).

Just called in to Super cheap today, and they have added a new range of products including intercooler piping, and alloy oil catch cans. All pretty good looking products and cheap cos their made in china.
I must admit i am a fan of Supercheap. Call in all the time for a look around.
