hey guys... just bought an 80series Blue Marlin Landcruiser
now this might sound stupid and dumb...... but how do you switch to the subtank??????
i press the sub tank button... a lil green light comes on for about 2seconds then turns off? and the gauge on the overhead thingy shows no petrol at all?
faulty sub tank? or am i not doing something right?

In the 4500 petrols, when you hit the sub tank button, all it does is start a transfer pump between the sub tank and the main tank. The fuel still gets pumped from the main tank to the motor via an EFI pump.
If there is no fuel in the sub tank when you hit the button, it will illuminate briefly, then the transfer pump will shut down (green light goes off).
The transfer pump will only run if:
a) there is fuel in the sub tank
b) and the main tank is not full (my sub tank wont transfer if i have more than 3/4 left in the main tank)
If you run your main tank down to below a 1/4 of a tank, then hit the sub tank button (providing your sub is full), you will slowly see the level of your sub tank drop, whilst the level in your main tank gets higher. When the sub tank is empty, it automatically switches off.
The diesels on the other hand just change the pickup from one tank to the other when the sub button is pressed.

Most probably the float in the tank has gone awol, or a bad connection back there, which is quite possible, however...this still should transfer fuel, as the low level switch in the sub tank is what turns off the system, not the gaige, so if it is not transdfering and no fuel on the gauge, chances are it is empty.....did you pull out that black knob next to the filler and fill the subtank???
If you did, you will need to do some fault finding with an electrical manual in hand....(it is in the back of the chassis manual)
