Q78's on a Sierra
Hi All,
Basically I'm a sucker for upgrades and am currently considering changing up to a Q78 swamper. Just wondering if anyone else is running this size? (35.x" i think)
I've done a little bit of research about them - i expect they should flex as nicely as the 36x12.5 do (because they have one less ply in the sidewall according to the interco site).
I also know that i should be able to run them on the 6.5" beadlocks that i've got (the interco site says they require a 7", but it also says that my current tyres require a 7" too).
So basically my queries are:
1. Can i keep my headlight / firewall / bonnet and squeeze a 35" tyre under there without going spring over?
2. How big / tall is too big / tall for a swb sierra before it becomes overly massive and wants to spend all it's time lying down - or before it starts looking overly massive (like Jerry's Jeep from Top Truck last year)?

I had a good look at your car when it was down in Vic for the 4wd show thing earlier in the year - didn't realise the swampers were Q78's though...
I'm not too worried about the breakage factor with the axel setup - working on the theory that they will be "okay" since Mick is running a 36" tyre and only breaking things occaisionally...
Do you have any pics with your car stuffing a tyre up into the guard - i'm wondering about how much more room i'm going to need to make it fit in there.

the fact you don't have any inner guards up front is good, you may have to remove the inner rears. You might want a little more lift maybe get some custom springs made similar to the Old Man Emu rears but with about 1" more lift. You will have to drop your bump stops.
The good thing about you doing this is it will let me know what I have to do when i go 37s and sidewinders

Yes i've heard a few of his stories... but his car is quite tall, narrow and hard sprung with the big shackles on it...

Sort of the sidewinders are about 3" wider than w/ts and the axle wouldn't be as far forward

I see - should be good... But i'm still not thinking that the tyres are going to be out far enough - think you will need to narrow the grill and bonnet like the fancy rockcrawlers

they will fit easy as.
i got 37 boggers on mine with no body lift, sprung over with perfectly flat springs ( well the fronts actually have a bit of negative arch in them now )
just cut it.
The biggest problem will be the footwell. I have my diff moved forward 4 inches and i still had to cut the firewall nearly back to the door on the outside edge tapering into the body mount (slight body mount massaging with a hammer is also required)
Just fit them so we can laugh at you breaking cv's driving it down your driveway
