Diff ratio Gas/diesel

Post by JelmerMQ »

What kind of diff ratio has a '86 diesel 5 speed with H233 diff and a '84 gasoline 4 speed and H233 diff?
Patrol 2.8 '84, twin carburators, Z-car header, 280ZX cam, SPOA, ARB lockers f+r, Ramsey winch, 33" Maxxis Mudders and some rust....

It is a little hard to say exactly since you are in Holland. The Aussie Patrols got certain ratios....and I have found other places in the world got different ratios. For example European or Middle East Patrols don't always have the same ratios as Aussie trucks. Even if outfitted the same, ie SD33T and 5spd with H233 in Saudi Arabi may not have the same ratio as the same truck in Australia.

Best to just pull the diff and count the teeth. Aussies have the ratio on the vin plate but I have not seen that on other Patrols besides in Aus. My German 83 MQ for example doesn't have the raio on the vin plate(s).

Before counting the teeth or doing the jack it up and rotate the tail shaft way. Try the vin plate. In Aus it has HG?? printed on it. That will be HG43 means 4.3:1 diff ratio.

Indeed, the code should be on the VIN plate, probably under the hood high on the side or rear.
In search of an MQ (offset) H233b rear, housing only preferred, plus a complete GQ or GU front (4.6 ratio ideal) to be shipped to the US. Cheap! Email/PM if you can help.
