Too much oil?????
Hi Guys
I was doing and oil change last night and was filling it up then let it settle started etc, and checked oil level again.
OK so it was showing full and I was thining what would have happened it I filled it too much say by half or 1 ltr too much
Would this have any adverse effects or wouldnt I notice the difference.
Cheers

It's hard to soar like an eagle when you are surrounded by geese.
Re: Too much oil?????
depending on engine, it can be very bad. drain some out, it isnt hard.Zam wrote:Hi Guys

how many cars have had oil added at a petroel station while hot (ie oil reads low due to it hasn't drained back). i've never heard of any that have blown up from it even tho they might have a litre to much in them. wait till the motors cold an check the oil level and it will be way to high.
by menory i think the worse thing that often happens is it cause high crank case pressure, you might blow a few seals out.

The engine can start to diesel on the oil if there is sufficiently enough getting into the inlet through the breather pipe.tweak'e wrote:how many cars have had oil added at a petroel station while hot (ie oil reads low due to it hasn't drained back). i've never heard of any that have blown up from it even tho they might have a litre to much in them. wait till the motors cold an check the oil level and it will be way to high.

I have seen this happen in a patrol ute (diesel) and it was not pretty. Only way to stop it was put it in 5th gear and drop the clutch while stomping the brakes.

it is a 2.8D lux and I was just curious would there be any adverse effects it say I ended up putting say 7.5 ltrs of oil in.
I think from memory the capacity is about 5.5 or 6.
Thats too much but dont stress it will burn it
Just kidding I would drain some out if i was you thats a little bit too high better to be safe than sorry

My mate at school had a Charade and no knowledge of cars at all...
It was showing below 'F' on the dipstick, so he popped into a servo and bought a 5L container to top it up...
Yep the whole 5 litres in an already nearly full charade
Let's say that car won't be going again.... lol

thx for that i forgot all about that. i personally havn't seen it but a local mechanic said he had a customer that had it. it pumped enough in that it went got up on boost and took off. the owner jumped out and let it crash (insurance fraud or panicky person ?)Shadow wrote:The engine can start to diesel on the oil if there is sufficiently enough getting into the inlet through the breather pipe.tweak'e wrote:how many cars have had oil added at a petroel station while hot (ie oil reads low due to it hasn't drained back). i've never heard of any that have blown up from it even tho they might have a litre to much in them. wait till the motors cold an check the oil level and it will be way to high.
