gq 1uz

Post by badger »

I have had a change of plans and decided to use gq running gear in my bundera.
Basically i am looking for experiances on mating this engine to the gq box.
Who makes adaptors and would you advise using there kit?

i will be using gq diffs with 4.3 ratios and a standard box in a extra cab bundera

Just personally, I wouldn't get too caught up on which transmission/transfer to use; I think you're making a good choice using the nissan diffs but I would suggest being open to using whatever gearbox is easiest to mate to the 1UZ. I would have thought some toyota transmissions would be better suited. Getting custom driveshafts to make nissan diffs work with non-nissan gearbox is pretty straightforward.

Can't the 1UZ be mated to a landcruiser gearbox fairly easily?

Just my thoughts.
This is not legal advice.

I would be more aiming to use the UZ engine and box, and using a lower reduction gear tcase like a landrover.

Certainly, there is no way in hell I would go out of my way to put a GQ box in anything it doesnt belong in.

While they may be tough, they are VERY slow to shift gears, and absurdly heavy.

Might not be the best match to a free revving engine like the UZ.

-1uz only comes in auto form.
-i could use the factory 100 series v8 box and bellhousing etc. but at over 2k in parts for the flywheel clutch and belhousing alone i doubt it
-the only toyota box an adaptor is made for is the r15# series from surfs and prados etc. i dont think this box is strong enough for what i wish to do with the car
-i know that the conversion into a gq has been done before

altho if i was to stay auto i could possibly use one of the many devorced transfers out there
just thought if i stuck to nissan its all good strong bit that are cheap to replace if they snap

i happy to take any advise tho

i currenty have a set of 80 diffs a set of gq diffs a h150 cruiser box (selling due to cost of adaptor)
the 80 box should finance what ever option i chose for a box and transfer

id use the nissan gear, cheap and bulletproof or if you have the dosh go to a big auto, t700etc plus crusier box wont work with nissan diffs due to the crusier being offset rear and the nissan being centre.

the factory toyota auto is supposed to be bullet proof. but as far as i know the only options i have for it is a hilux surf transfer or any devorced transfer.

would a 720 or rangie one be strong enough
