75 series gearbox breather
As the topic says iam trying to find the gearbox breather in my 1992 75 series landcruiser ute 5 speed iam not sure on the transmission type h105f/h151f....
I have a max ellery manual but i cant find any information in the manual on gearbox breathers.Also is there a gearbox breather and a transfer breather?If so are they connected together?

yeah mate ya spot on there the gear box and the transfer use the same breather... the breather is located on the very top abit behind the gear shifter...... hard to locate but you can always drop the gear box a little

Found it just after i posted this on the left hand side at the back just like you said muss.What a prick of a spot and i see the breather is different to the diff breather ya cant just pop the top of and extended with a piece of hose...Good on ya toyota
I was thinking of pulling the floor out and unbolt the plate that the gearbox rubber boots are bolted too and get to it from the top

pretty sure thats how mine was done mate...... makes a big difference with it on....... i have plans on adding an out board fuel hand pump to presurise my gear box and t case and diffs only need 5-8 psi max to keep the water/ mud out

same place as mine was.
I tried to remove the breather cap and wrecked it... so i blocked it off by filling the cap with sealant and crimping it back on..
So I drilled and tapped into the top shifter plate (as if i screwed up i wouldnt wreck the gearbox casing) just next to the original breather, ran a 90 degree barbed fitting then airling down to the transfer case. I drilled and tapped the PTO cover plate (again just in case i stuffed it) and did the same with another fitting.
I tee'd into the gearbox line and ran the airline along the gearbox crossmember into the rear diff breather line that I had already extended into the engine bay.
Wah Lah.. extended gearbox breathers as well as gearbox/transfer case equalisation pipe.
If i was doing it again i'd prob run a seperate gearbox/transfer line into the engine bay rather than tee'ing into the rear diff breather, but i havnt had a problem with the way it is currently set up.

This is how I did mine. Pardon the rubber gloves, but I have to keep my fingernails clean for work on Monday, LOL.
The cap twist off easily:
Under the cap, a spring and a disc is all you see:
I took a piece of old steel brake tubing to make the breather extension:
Inserted into the hole and ready for bending.
The line only has to go in about 2 cm:
I used silicone sealant to seal the hole then I bent the tube gently and gradually to keep it from kinking:
Now there is a tube I can easily attach a line to the breather.

Would it be possible to do that same trick with the tube while the gearbox is still installed in the vehicle?
Also, what are people's views on putting a T-piece in the breather line and having the gearbox and rear diff on the one pipe?

Yup, you can do it all under the car by feel, but if you unbolt the crossmember from the frame and lower the transfer with a floor jack it's heaps easier.
The gearbox has no breathers that I can find. I connected the breather lines from both diff housings and the transfer together, routed both lines to the bulkhead and plugged a small fuel filter at the end to allow ventilation.

I like the way you did that Dave.I just put a bent piece of black fuel pipe that was shaped liked a L and clamped it on tight trust me it wasnt coming off and ran it up into the engine bay.But now that i read yours that looks like a better idea.I got to mine from the top unbolting the plate around the gearstick/transferstick plenty of room to get my hands in there...
The breather shown is only for the transfer as the the picture shows on the dissassembled case its drilled through to the transfer side only. The gearbox breaths around the shifter boot as its not a purfect seal around the top of the box. I used to put a hose clamp around the boot on my 75 and never found the oil contaminated.

I may have erred in my assumption that your ute is a diesel and has the iron H55f gearbox and the 60 series type BF1A transfer case. You mentioned you think the gearbox is an H150f/H151f. Is your ute a 24 valve petrol FZJ75? If it is, you should have the H150f alloy gearbox and the later 80 series type HF1A transfer case. Then, your gearbox and transfer should already have breathers on top (green arrows) connected to a valve bolted to the top of the bellhousing (red arrow):
