diesel engine oil
went bak to see they guy that serviced my car the other day (not really happy with him, had to go back multiple times to get work re-done that wasnt properly done in the first place) I asked what oil he used when he serviced it, (fergot to ask when it was done). Penzoil multidisk or something. It was definately penzoil, he said it's a bit dearer than others. But its spose to be real good, im a bit wary of him though.

True but the filters maybe getting plugged thus oil going through the bypass valve and not getting filtered, cheap insurance change oil change filters.Tayls wrote:thats what i thought to, but all the mixer down there dont rate the oil. They swear by RX super.

Slowlux you can always check the Penzoil web site and see what they recommend as long as it meets manufactor's recommendations all should be ok. Also did you know ( some useless trivia here ) that Royal Dutch owns Penzzoil Quaker State and Fuchs who is Royal Dutch - Shell.

Hard to say exactly how good they were, oil light stayed on for 5-6 seconds on cold dry startup, thats a '93 gq with 150k, they looked pretty well made, probably inline with ryco or so, i only had confidence because of baldwin being such a large company, figured they'd be reasonable.

i use agip super turbo diesel oil. can highly reccomened this oil. have used it for years in both my patrols. i hydro locked my td42 at 230000 pulled it apart and could still see the hone marks on bores. bearings and everything else were in top condition aswell. just a few bent rods lol. not many dealers in australia for it tho

Why bother using oils that are good for 20,000 kays in a truck when you change it at 5k? The reason for synthetic mixes for long life etc is to deal with the duty and retain the required lubricity for the service life. Your td42 required 5k oil changes due to the carbon build up in the oil, what are you gaining with the longer service life oil apart from spending more?

Nah mate none are good for 20k km that i know of, 10k possibly in the vehicles we are talking under a specific type of usage and more than likely the criteria for the change will be soot levels and how that particular oil handles those equivalent levels. Delvac 1 might be twice the price but it will handle soot and keep most of it's TBN (google it if you want) all the while to quite possibly twice the distance over say one of the Penrites.
So many oils so many different types of marketing but the path through using science means an oil worth $5.50 per litre (dello400) is as good as ANY other out there to say 6-7k km.... now there is a saving right there.
One of the leading reasons to stick to 5k is because if at say 2k you leak some dust in, slow leak coolant/diesel whatever this will play havoc with any oil, new oil means more opportunity for the damage to be minor until hopefully noticed and repaired....our engines are expensive.
but you are right...just so long as the oil is not too bargain basement.......this doesn't mean just the price either there are some very average oils out there for a lot of money .
*JUST LUV IT* 96 GQ LWB TD4.2, Cav, Kings, Dobinsons, Motorguard, Enginesaver, 400 pro, Cooper ST's (rolls eyes), fleetguard oil filters, Delo 400 engine oil, Delo ESI gearbox oil and an RTC.
