TD42T Question
TD42T Question
Maybe a little bit dumm but to be sure, do you know if a TD42T engine (turbo from factory) can straight fit on an “Y60 SWB year 1990 Patrol that has right now a TD42 engine” without doing any changes, or do I have to take some things in count first to do the change? The transfer case would fit direct?

They are the same engine with or without turbo...
The TD42 is pretty much unchanged from 1988. Thats the ENGINE BLOCK itself, with different pistons being thrown at it a couple of times as well as a few minor improvements (why change perfection).macorti wrote:I think that maybe the only change would be the air intake for the intercooler right?
The bolt on bits have changed, EG manufactures of alternators, etc and things have moved around the engine bay..
Bolt on bits for Intercooler etc should bolt straight onto an early model motor, as lookin at mine, there doesnt appear to be much that mounts to the physical engine block, the mounts for intercooler are on the body of the car. Air for engine comes in on same side of car to a different airbox
Airbox's are different from GQ to GU Tdi, so you would need to change that.
The cross over pipe for the turbo will mount up to a NA TD42.
What is your overall plan? That may speed things up answering your questions/ideas.
Hey Bogged,
I'm asking all this because maybe there would be a possibility for me to order a TD42T from Japan with a neighbor that goes pretty often to Korea-China-Japan, so he says that he can get the engine for a very good price.
I’m in to this because 2nd reasons the first one is because my TD42 is a little bit slow, taking in count that I already changed the injectors as well as the exhaust system and refinement has been done.
And the 2nd one is because I would like to keep my shorty as long as possible cause here at Costa Rica is not as easy to get a GQ and it is much harder if you are looking for a SWB like mine. And my TD42 has almost 400000 KM, so I was thinking into maybe buy this TD42T.
Bogged I’m all ears to hear your advice and comments…….

since yours has a few klms on it, you have a few optiosnmacorti wrote:Hey Bogged,

1) rebuild yours and turbo it - which would cost you a fair wack of money
2) turbo yours as it is without rebuilding. you MAY get another 300,000klsm out of it. You would do a compression test on it before doing any turbo/supercharger work.
3) go the import - probably the best option it appears.
If you can get the whole motor go for it, as bogged said very few changes occured to this motor. The biggest change that I can think of was the removing of the vacume pump from the back of the Alt to below the Inj Pump.
As for bolt holes and bolts no changes have occured during the life of this motor.
