Post by Killeraxle »

I heard that the GM V8 diesel is very popular in Australia !?
I am running in all my trucks 6.2 and 6.5 engines. The thing I would like to know if somebody is using an build up GM diesel with about 300 to 350 hp ! I got a 2000 6.5L engine I want to build up for my next truck .
Any input how to build it is helpefull for me ! I got some ideas but I hope someone has better ideas to get more power.

Try http://www.marinepropulsioncorp.com/peninsular.html they build marine versions with 300 and 400HP. Have 18:1 compression pistons etc.

Have you considered replacing the 6.5 TD with a Duramax Diesel? They are an awesome engine. They come with the 300hp stock standard. I haven't done the comparison to see how a high performance 6.5 diesel compares to a Duramax engine pricewise but if they were close I would go the Duramax.

No more faulty injector pumps. 705 Nm of torque. Quieter and fuel economy to boot.

I called the guy`s from penisular diesel after I cheked out the link you posted ! 400hp and 600ftlbs at 2200rpm !!! Now I know what to do !
I will O ring seal the the block and use copper head gaskets, DB4 pump, hi pop injector`s, custom made pistons, nice turbo`s, bigger injection liness, custom headers for the turbo`s.
behind this engine I will use a build 4l80e full manual and a divorced Ford NP205. 1410 or bigger driveshaft , and big U416 Mog axles with disc brakes. Tires I want to try are 395/85R20 Michelin XML`s with double beadlock rims.. I want to keep my rig under 2m height. And no electronic !

I do not run electronic pumps on my engines, so I do not have any problems ! The Duramax is a nice engine but it is bigger and heavier (way bigger) . Also is the Duramax packed with electronic ! Also is the Duramax very expensive. I have an 2000 6.5 with oil cooled pistons, and I paid 300$US for it . I want to keep my project as cheap as possible.
A friend of mine tried to stuff an Duramax in his 85 Blazer ! He gave up and is using a Vortec 6.0 now. He still has the Duramax with an Allison trans. I tried to get the combo from him but no luck.

Thanks
Daniel

$300US for a L65 sounds good to me. Over here most the ones I've seen have been about $5000 - $6000 AUD. Add in another $2500 for a new injector pump and it gets expensive.

Don't get me wrong though, I still think the L65 is a great motor.

I don't think they are much bigger if at all. The turbo sits at the back instead of the side. They look bigger because you have the larger intercooler pipes in the engine bay.

I can take some measurements if you are keen on fitting one.
