yes, long range tanks are available. approx 150ltr capacity. any 4wd shop will be able to help you out with one.

Hi there, I own a 1983 NA Pajero TD SWB and I know that Brown Davis Automotive of Melbourne (Bayswater I think) make long range fuel tanks. They were the only aftermarket fuel tanks that gave me a replacement tank (not auxiliary tank) for my car. I had a choice of 85l (which i got) that doesn't affect ground clearance, or 105l which would have lowered my clearance by 2 inches. If they make fuel tanks for early SWB Pajeros, then they will definitely make one for you. The only issue I have with this fuel tank is that I find it difficult to accurately measure fuel economy because when the pump stops at the servo, you have to click and click and click and click until you actually see the fuel in the tank, oterwise if I stopped filling when the pump first stops, it would only be something like 3/4 full. I dont know if this is the case with other makes of fuel tanks. I'll stop jabberring now, I hope I have helped you.

there are brandnew fueltanks for a SWB and LWB Pajero/Montero at www.4x4camp.de
Here is the first report and a few pics. The volume is 131 L (SWB) 171L (LWB)

The towbar is still the lowest point of the car.

4wdsystems in SA make a 150L replacement tank for NJ. I belive its $650 off the top of my head + delivery. They come with a 2 or 3 year structural warranty and are good quality.

Hi Kanis

That shorty tank is impressive looking - mine's only 120l, I can see where you got the extra volume. Which models does it suit, and does it suit factory vehicle, or do you need body/suspension lift?

Mine was built to re-use the stock fuel pump and gauge sender - it looks like that one uses new units. Any info on these?

Hi Scott

this tank is made for SWB Pajero from 1991 - 2005 with bodylift. In case of a petrolengine the original fuelpump has to be modified. Also the lever for the gauge has to be modified. In case of a diesel the steelhose has to made longer with a ruberhose.
There is also a model for cars without bodylift. It has a volume of 134L te LWB version has volume of 170L.

Hey guys, Long time no post. Still reading here and there though....

there is also a 50L auxilliary one for the LWB NJ etc that goes under the drivers floor area by LRA. They also offered to custom make it for me in stainless for drinking water, about $800 in stainless for a price guide. Didn't go ahead with it myself, so can't comment on it.

200L of diesel would be nice for the next trip across Oz though
