Epoxy Coating Winch drum
Anybody see any reason why I shouldn't epoxy coat the drum on my hi-mount. Am gonna run syntethic. For that matter, I want to epoxy coat the gearbox halves as well as the other side mount.
Seems a bit of overkill to me. My 2nd hand Warn 8274 has been on my truck for over 20 years and the drum looks fine. Not sure how old it was when I bought it.
I have a waterproof cover over it when not in use, but think that the real secret is to use the winch as a working winch and not as an ornament. Oh, after use I usually get round sooner or later to washing off the mud and dirt and spraying WD40 over the cable which seems to percolate down to the drum. I think I do recall about 12 years ago that when I replaced the brake pads I actually painted the inside of the drum with epoxy. Wouldn't have been a bad idea.

I dont believe that, try pc and 2p 2 sets of rims and see which lasts.ISUZUROVER wrote:Actually not true - I was told by a powdercoating place that 2-pack paint is harder wearing.Freakazoid wrote:Keep drum from rusting. Much harder wearing than paint.
