oil pressure?

Post by j-top paj »

anyone know what oil pressure should be in a tb45? during the past 2 days ive seen mine go from 25psi to 65psi. what should it be on? idle, reving etc...?
when the engine is warming up it sits on about 45psi and then after a few minutes it gradually drops.
just wondering if its normal or not?

Pretty normal for the variance I think mate. When cold in the morn mine will go to at least 70 more like 80 when you are driving.
Down to 20 at a hot idle

I think normal driving and hot it goes to about 60

It's normal. Oil pressures will vary a bit from engine to engine depending on the viscosity of the oil being used and the tightness of the engine. Obviously an engine thats done 50 000K's is going to have more oil pressure than one that has done 300 000. There are two reasons why oil pressure drops on your engine after it warms up. 1 is as its warming up it is running at faster idle causing the oil pump to work harder and the pressure to be higher, and the other is, as you engine warms up the engine oil becomes thinner causing the oil pressure to drop at idle.

Not normally, but I'd still pay a few extra dollars for a quality oil filter such as genuine, Ryco or Valvoline over the cheaper Taiwanese imports. I see it as a cheap insurance policy for your engine. :)
