Tail shaft balancing

Post by 4x4Monkey »

OK about 2 weeks ago i had to change the uni joints (

anyway i havd the intire shaft out and was getting the fuckers out as they had rusted in

and i turned to grab the hammer off the wall and some out the shaft tilted down and the fucking shaft fell out of the slip joint.compltley fell out

at this point i shouted a few bad words and the dick next door abused me lol

thing is i forgot to mark the fucker..... as i had no intention of pulling the slip joint out
Now i had to take a guess and well its out........ as soon as i hit 90 the vibration starts and its not good............
Am i gonna have to get the shart spun and re-balance or what

all u may need to do is just realign it as sic lux said. ive just got a new tailshaft on after bending the old one. it still needs a lil tweak. if this fails u may want to pull it apart again and have another crack. balancing your looking at around $90
If all else fails, use a bigger hammer

You can do what crack said first, then if that doesn't workput a hose clamp on the tail shaft and go for a run. Move it around until you find a spot where the vibration stops.

why not mark your shaft both sides of the slip pull it apart turning it a spline at a time untill it gets better or worse and keep going till its good if you have tried the other things bit of a stuff round 90 bucks or a bit of time. :?

Uni joints have to be phased correctly, as in pull slip joint apart and the innermost cap holders as in the ones attached to the shaft itself should be in the same posi as each other, if there out of phase they fight each other

they should cancel eachother out no matterhow they are aligned. (in theory)
