Only smelling is not enouph to tell whats inside try to see if the color of the water is different with spots of oil or gas. If that happens u just have a small crack on the head i also have one but no oil or gas on water and no problems on starting engine and running.

Water is clean, without any spots of oil or gas. There is no problems with starting engine in the morning, but i must fill with half of liter of water every 2000km.

DO what i am saying i had that problem also. Run the engine around the streets for 30 minutes then find some place to stop and check around the enigine if some waters is coming out (dont turn off the engine u want see if water licks). On my feroza on of the pipes where not well fit and was licking water but i couldnt see it when the engine was turned off. If u find the problem try to tight the pipe with a screwdriver like on the picture i will post

Look my friend Gasoline is not so easy to clean it. It must have been stucked all over the water system but u dont have any problem with that just try to put new water every few miles (are u sure u have took out all the water from the water system and put new again?) and after 2 or 3 times will be fine. Let me ask something are u using simple water from the house? If that is correct u will have problems in the future try to use some special water they have in Gas stations and try to use the GREEN WATER that they sell in small bottles. But first take out all water from the car and put the green water and then some simple water from the house until is full.

might be stupid question but has it got hot ?

if so and your using cheap coolant you may just find its the coolant.

some coolants once they have been hot a few times will give an oily residue and smell like fuel.

it dosent even need to be that hot abit over half will do it. did it in my commodore and its still got a smell 18 months and 80,000 kms later.
