Suggestions for an air filter housing for MQ efi conversion

Post by David_S »

I know it may sound silly but I am in the process of converting my P40 engined MQ to efi using the throttle body of an EA Falcon. Both engines are 4L sixes.

I am having a bit of a problem sorting out the air filter to mount over the throttle body. The Falcon EA filter unit is just a bit too big to fit between the rocker box and my batteries. I don't want to modify the existing Nissan one as I need it to run with the carb in the meantime. (BTW the Nissan one is a heap more solid than the Falcon). Also the Falcon filter housing fits on the left of the engine whereas the P40 manifold sits on the right so the Falcon one points in the wrong direction, slopes the wrong way and the bottom hole which is off centre is in the wrong place!

Can anyone tell me what the dimensions of a TB42 filter box are. I saw a unifilter for a TB42 which indicates that the box is oval-shaped which might fit quite well.

The space available is about 350mm x 400mm with max depth of about 150mm under the bonnet. I could probably squeeze a bit more depth if I angled the housing. The throttle body intake dimensions are 115mmx72mm. I intend keeping the original Nissan cyclone pre-cleaner and Safari snorkel.

Any suggestions as to what might fit would be welcome.

David

PS Got the megasquirt ecu assembled. Seems to run Ok with the stimulator board.

PPS Forgot to mention that this is a LHD truck so I don't have problems with steering column or brake servo and reservoirs being in the way
