Frontera Lifting

Post by gregp »

Ok its come to that time, Im wanting to lift the Frontera up off the ground. I have been told by a knob at Penrith that it will set me back $4500-$5000 for a 2" lift... hmmm also said you can't and shouldn't lift an IFS 4WD this includes Hilux, Surf, Vitara, etc...bugger that rules most 4WDs out ;) Had better quotes from Pedders $928 and Jax $1285 using Rancho Adjustables and King Spring rear.
So question is. I want to go 2" up What have you guys done about the front end, what brands and furhter more what realistic price would I be looking at?
Cheers

No need for Dazz now ;) I have finally got what I was after, from a great bunch of guys at the TJM 4WD warehouse at Blacktown (nice free plug for ya there ;) ) Settled on TJM shockies and 60mm springs. So easy to deal with guys that want to help and know what can be done to IFS torsion 4WDs.

Sorry guys, been trippin around NSW for a couple of weeks. (Broken Hill, Cobar, Bourke then across to the coast) So I havn't been around.

I use Pedders Jack springs (around $120inc trade) and RS5000s front and rear.

Hey Dazz - You have a Frontera I'm guessing? what colour/mods?

If you see a dark green Feroza with Olympic Overlanders on down Kay st or Hotham St give us a wave mate :finger: :finger:

yeah, me either.

I'm going to melbourne most weekends for the next month or so - after that though will def be up for some drives. Theres some places up the back of Tyers I've wanted to check out, and over at the old water ski lake near Yallourn PS... look OK. Should be some good mud by then too.

In a month u'll see me about. I think theres only one green feroza in t'gon. Usually at video ezy or the Crown pub drive thru :D :D

Cost about $150 to lift my mate's MU suspension 35mm.... Most of that was on a drill bit to make the +35mm rear shackes and some polyurethane bushes.

If he had of done some more looking around first it probably woulda been better just buying rear shackles.

So in total about $100 for 35mm bodylift + $150 for 35mm suspension lift.... nearly 3" for $250...

Works pretty good now, althought the front is still the key limitation.

Greg P.,

Can you give me an update on your TJM suspension upgrade. How does it compare to standard? Height? Ride? Load carrying? Cost?

I may make this my first project for next year. The rear of the Frontera seems a bit soft and drops when you throw in a mild load.

yeah, I'd be interested aswell gregp - how do you find the tjm set up - in particular, after winding up the front torsions so high, how do u find downwards wheel travel?

I've decided to get a frontera once i get back from os - over the prado, pathy, cherokee and challenger, for various reasons.

Dazz - did a real quick nice track on the way to Walhalla last weekend - between Erica and Walhalla you see on your left a massive pretty steep hill and track - take it and it takes you up to some NICE mud/clay ruts - nothinging too rediculous but good for some fun - its only about 5 km or so but good fun. I went with a Jepp Wrangler - we got stuck a fair few times but it was all good.

so I recommend you check it out if you havn't done so already, - would be a bit more slippery after the storms this week....

Guys,

whilst I wait for an update on the TJM product, can I ask if anyone has had any experience with the Enforcer system. Sunstate 4WD here in Brisbane sell Enforcer coils and 4 gas shocks for the Frontera, (which I'm told are the TJM series 2000 variety with a different label) to give 2" lift for $550. A bit cheaper than the $1350 TJM system, which included torsion bars they insisted it needed. :?

I have been told that i can lift my car (rodeo) with a similar suspension setup to yours i gather for the price of a couple of rear shackles (if you don't carry much of a load) and wind up the front torsion bars and a couple of new longer stroke shocks..... in all shouldn't cost much more than a couple of hundred bucks for an extra couple of inches! which i sure could have done with on Sunday :?
