Winch Cable/Plasma Rope

Whats the going price on Plasma Rope?

I hear that 8mm stuff is quite cheap but aint allowed in competitions. Is 9mm comp spec?

What about just a standard cable 50meters (for a high mount)?

I don't remember what i paid for mine, but I'd go the 9mm at least. I went for the 11mm coz it was only 50c a metre more than 9mm.

Definately go the plasma, i hate being a winch bitch for guys still with cable! We had some plasma (8mm) break on us the other weekend and it just dropped to the ground.

Go here to look at some of the unknowns once you use a spool of wire. Personally I would never use it again I am worth more than the couple of hundg difference between wire and synthetic rope.

Been a debate here a couple of times, cant see the compelling reason not to use Plasma it is safer. We are quite willing to spend thousands on our machines and still some cant justify the couple of hundred extra to upgrade to a safer, easier to use product.

Seem to have the best deals on plasma. NOt sure how the sizing relates to what is allowed over here in comps... But the prices do seem cheaper.

Think i have it sorted now.

3/8" x 150', 20,400lb winch rope, $250 US.

Sweet.

Will be there in January.

Dont think anyone can beat that price here can they?

At the bottom of that page it says 3/8" x 125' for a Warn High Mount.

No point paying for more than is gunna fit ...

I would not advise in having more than 100' of 3/8" on a hi-mount...that is what I ordered so that I'll be closer to the bottom layer more frequently, AND, I was lucky enough, since it seemed that more rope would have resulted in a much more dense drum

Plasma 12 synthetic winch line is the stuff to try and put your hands on. Dunno if there is a dealer in Oz?

Also, we don't use 8mm or 9mm. It's all 11mm, and some even use 150ft on an 8274 (standard drum). Most use 125ft but it can be done.

have amsteel blue on my winch,

broke it once personally & twice by the previous owner,upgrading to a highmount froma lowmount & fiting 124foot of 11mm of plasma 12 strand,just down to who gives me best price,

AmSteel Blue is the goods....its all we ever use (11mm dia) and we are happy as with its performance.

How would this stuff go with a fully loaded hj47 troopcarrier with PTO winch? Also does it break down from being exposed to UV over a long period?

Some is UV protected and rope is stronger than steel cable.
