pop out (springs)
pop out (springs)
hey guys need help with a prop, got a 5 inch susp lift in my gq the prop is that on full flex at the rear my spring pops out of the mounts i was thinking of custom making a set of relocates so when the diff moves back up the spring will relocate its self back into possition,
If i could get others opinions or ideas that would be great.

i had the same problem i clamped the spring to the bottom in 180% to the way it normally sits so they line up good. but still gonna make some cones for the top.
wat length shock do you run? i run 36in shock in a 6in lift so my springs drop out heaps
i also want to know wat the best way to do the cone/hat? pics would be good

Why does every 1 want to have cones at the top for ......yes it will help with flex but flex isnt everything .......if you retain the upper and lower ofthe coil when the rig flexes or gets on a side slope the coil will wrk back against itself and the rig will be much more stable and less floppy Ie less chance of roll over and it doesnt limit your travel by any huge amount .......

doesnt matter where the cones are it will still be more unstable than A rig with retained coils no matter how far away the coils comes on max flex ..... if the coil comes away from the coil perch ....almost wrks this way as a limiting strap in a sense
but hey every1 has there opinion and this is just mine , so be it you like your setup thats fine too

yeah details on the retainers would be awesome, my springs are popping out about 1.5" at full flex in the rear, I was going to lift it another inch with packers to take up the 'slack' in the shortness of the spring. But would prefer to use some retainers if i can work out how.dirty_gq wrote:thanks for the input might go for the retainers, hey A1 (Dan) just wondering how you made your retainers?
thanks dirty_gq
All the gear, No idea...
It does help a little to have a body lift depending what way you fab the upper coil brkts.
Retain brkts
With mine from memory i used some 50 x 6 mm flatbar long enough to just go past either side of the coil drill a hole in the middle and for strength I then welded as you can prob see from the pics a bit of about 30x 10 flat with the ends slightly folded .....just to stop the 50 x 6mm from bending obviously I didnt run the 30 x 10 the whole length .....
then the on rig brkts
for the rear uppers I removed the coil then cut a piece of 50x 10 so that it fitted inside ofthe hole of the upper coil perch then welded in i also had a brace accross the top of this plate and in the centre had a 12mm high tensile bolt welded thread pointing down so that I could slide the retain brkt in and up and nut off .....
the lower coil perch ( when doing the mods to my rig i had to rotate the coil perches so this part was easy for me to acheive the following but a similiar alternative to this could be acheived im sure)
when I hadthe coil perches off fabbing up the new brkts (c section to go under perch to weld to axle housing) I welded a 12mm bolt pointing up to be able to do what i had likethe top slide the retain brkt in and down and nut off
