:) :) :)

Not long to go now before the start of "8 Days of Off Road Magic". We have 14 starters.

LMP had a few showers last week, but only enough to settle the dust for a couple of days.

Charterboat and myself will be leaving for XI Base this Friday. After that I will be contactable by phone.

Don't forget if you cannot make it to the XI, there will be daily updates & photo's on my web site.

Tickets are still available for the Presentation Dinner direct from LMP (07) 5497 3164, so book early.

Pre event class & safety checks will commence Friday 22nd at 1400 hrs.

All have a safe trip there and catch you at the start.

Cheers
David (MMM) :) :)

Not long to go now.

We have got 14 of Australia's best Teams that are capable of handling the pace of Australia's longest and possibly hardest 4WD Event, not only having to do battle with 42SS over the "8 Days of Off Road Magic" but also having to follow the toughest rules of any other 4WD event in Australia.

I would like to wish all the Teams the best of luck in the XI.

Scott (Charterboat) & myself will be heading off to XI Base on Friday.

Cheers CU at the XI

Just got back from watching some of todays action. Plenty going on.

Kym Bolton was quickest on stage 1 which I think was used to put teams in to groups. Kym later snapped a radius arm in 2 places on stage 3 and I think might have spent some time on his side after it let go. It was repaired before I left but not sure he ran the remainder of todays stages or took DNF's.

Norm Walters did something serious to the motor in stage 1 so last I heard he was being towed to camp/office and going to attempt to re-build the motor. He'll be missing the rest of todays stages but hasn't pulled out yet.

Fester broke his fingers on stage 1 or 2 when they got caught in the spokes of the steering wheel. They were strapped together and with a couple of Panadol he and Soapy were finishing the days stages. He may be a little slower than his norm but I think the truck might benefit from a gentler run early in the week. All stages under DNF I think.

Chris Woods and Chris Brame (Giant Racing) made a mistake on stage 5 when they went the wrong way and lost of lot of time. Also having trouble with the 12V/24V switching on the winch and too much torque out of the twin turbo V8 is burying the wheels everywhere. They finished all the days stages with reasonable times under DNF.

Brad Cooper in the black/yellow rangie is going well and is getting good times. He has finished all stages but sustained a bit of panel damage on stage 3 which was his last for the day. I think he may have a DNF from stage 5 when a loose battery connection lost power to the winch and it was initially thought to be a burnt out solenoid.

Sheety seems to be doing OK in his Patrol but the V8 was sounding a bit ordinary at one point so not sure if everything's right under the bonnet. I think he has done all stages so far under DNF.

Greg & Brent from Townsville were going really well when I saw them run, and the V8 sounded great and was going quick. I think they have finished all stages inside DNF.

Bob Dunsmore was having great runs in his V8 GQ. He may have best time on one of the stages. Didn't see any breakages.

A blue SWB GQ (sorry don't know the guys names) seemed to be having locker troubles on stage 5 and burnt out a winch solenoid which gave them a DNF. Didn't see them run again but I think they will make all stages after fixing the winch.

The Claytons towing ute (Spoony & Stirlo I think) was going real well and i think had best time on one of the stages.

Al Tierney in the Team EFS V8 MQ was looking good as ever. They had fastest time on 2 stages when I left and were having flawless runs as far as I could see.

Shane Sheraton and Brett Long seemed to be going reasonably well in the farm truck although Brett was looking very flushed - I reckon 8 days of running up winch hills in the blazing sun is gonna make him ache!

1Tuffrover I saw charging around courses in the distance but never saw him run. He seeme dto be going OK.

I didn't see Toughnut or John Butler running but they may have been on courses I wasn't watching. Didn't notice John Butler at all.

just got back :D

Norm popped the collets off a valve [ i think] and was back in the running again this morning so the 14 teams are all still going.

On the transport stage out to this morning tracks the fuel pressure gauge shat itself on Chris Woods's GQ ... its now been officially CHRIStened the "Fire Truck" as it caught alight but quick action by the competitors put it out before too much damage was done, it was repaired in 1hr 50 mins or so and they completed all the days stages ok and managed to drive all of stage 4, only bob dunsmore drove the big winch hill as well. Chris Brame was absolutely buggered from scrambling up all those hills all day ... He He, after this week he will think its a piece of cake naving for me :D

Al Teirney put it on its side on stage 3 but recovered quickly and still put in one of the best times.

Steve Waterford also had a bit of a lie down apparently but i didn't see much damage on it.

Norm Walters was giving it heaps as usual and doing great.

Kym Bolton did an electric winch on stage 2 but simply ran out the other cable from the PTO winch and carried on

Sheety and Brian managed to finally fix the fuel pressure problems and finally did a track with more than idle revs
:D sheety was still grinning as per usual :D

everyone is still in the game so far

2.20am and have just finished the first of the night stages , of the 7 Teams that started this SS (1 hour dnf) 4 Teams Allan & Paul, Bob & Damo And the Farm truck of Shane & Brett all completed within time, Fester & Soapy DNF'd 20 meters from the top. Chris & Chris broke in the Course and did not make the hill, Kym & Robert had some problems and DNF'd at the start of the hill. Average time was 45 minutes. Lets see what the rest do tomorrow night.

This SS had 3 winches before you got to "Mount Killamenavigator" which required at least 6plus hook ups for some of these Teams. Will try and get photos and more of a story on my web tomorrow.

Have had several fires in the Park this weekend, one of which managed to damage punches at GPS area resulting in a change of plans for the GPS SS, This will be checked tomorrow (80 points) day GPS will now run Tuesday & Wednesday, Night GPS Tuesday & Thursday night.

2 days down and 6 to go (32 SS left) All vehicles still running and Co-drivers very tied.

Cheers all, time to get to bed for 3 hours sleep.
