Strangely enough
I have a 94 Vitara with an import G16A motor (after the original G16B seized apparently??). We bought it a month ago and to our dismay we were getting small pools of coolant on the garage floor each night. So each morning I would do a small top up job on the overflow bottle, and the temp gauge would never go above qtr. However, the coolant amount leaking started getting a little larger and considering I am intending on 4wding on the beach and in the bush once I get it all setup, I thought I should take it to my mechanic for a look.
Well.........turns out that the water pump was buggered and the coolant was leaking out of two holes in the water pump casting. Out of the bottom one (can be confused with leaking water pump gasket) when the motor was stopped and out of both the bottom and top when the motor was going. GREAT
. Considering the state of affairs with the water pump and the fact that to get it out you had to remove the timing belt as well, we elected to replace the belt and tensioner as well as a new water pump (piece of mind).
The only drawback with getting older and lazier I have found is that I am less inclined to fix things that I have the skills and know how to do myself. So, invariably I have been getting the mechanic to repair more major work (I still do general servicing myself, then I have control over what oils are used). Here's the bigger..........it ended up costing us a little over 500 bucks for the repairs.....
.
Did I hear someone say YEEOUCH!

well last night i did some investigation and i have come to the simple conclusion ! WHAT A NIGHTMARE !!!
anyway i have decided to do my 100 000 service a bit premature and change my timing belt while im at it.
my next issue im having is trying to find the rite timing belt for my car, as my motor is a jap spec g16a out a vitara, which im led to believe is the same as an australian g16b, as its 16v inj.
Which timing belt do i buy for, the g16a has a 95notch belt compared to the g16b having a 125 notch belt, one worth $88 for a kit and ther other $133,
is anybody able to help me out with a part number or tell me which motor i have to buy for.
cheers

I have a NAP Catalogue that lists most part numbers required using the engine name itself I will have a look tonight for you and try find out what you might need. i could then give you the part number and you just need to ring a shop to order it, just aslong as its in there I should be able to get back to you I will post back findings tomorrow.
If no one else us sure of what the part number is
I can check it out tonight for you and see what i come up with.
Some times it means taking the timing belt of to find out which one it is, then the parts dealer matching it up for you.
I found this in the mean time for the Gates Kit which you can get in Austrlaia
Vehicle: 1992 Suzuki Sidekick SOHC16VALVE
Brand: Gates Timing Belt Kit
Fits Engine - Chassis:
1.6 — SE416
Part #: A5006-160532

You need the G16B timing belt. The confusion arises from the fact that people refer to the 8v as a G16A and the 16v as a G16B but the G16B also has G16A cast on the block but the engine number will usually have G16B in it.

sweet. thats cj. so guessing the differece between the import 16a and the aus g16b is the block is the same but heads are different.
internal parts the same?
whats the service interval for this.
also anything else worth doing once its out. Water pump being one thing i am going to look at.

Replace the belt every 100,000km and if you don't know if it has been done when it should have been then just do it now. The 16v obviously have different pistons to suit the valves and the crank is balanced better.
