yeah whats the deal with getting them refilled ? can you take them to BOC or CIG or what ever they are called these days for a refil ?

Last i looked, BOC was the go.

Expensive to get the setup (rent bottle, and buy the reg etc) but not that expensive once setup, but with all the good Air Compressors around, it kind of makes you think 'why bother'

I have a "D" sized bottle that can fill a 35x14 bogger from flat to 20 psi in about 20 seconds!

Works well!

BOC is the place to go!

$60.00 to set up the account and $20.00 each re-fill!

A bottle last quite a while! (well worth the $$$)

Mind you it takes up more room than a compressor, but it can seat beads easy as!

I keep it know just as a back up!

Air-up australia is trying to set resellers up with a refill station.
So wherever you buy the bottle and hoses etc. from you will be able to return and get the bottle filled.

Apparently a lot cheaper than at BOC or a welding supply, fire extinguisher or similar shop.

I really know very little about it all, but there should be a review on http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com in a month or two.

BOC charges $90/year for rental of a D size bottle, plus whatever the refills cost, welding gas and oxy/acetylene are around $40 - 50 each per fill but I think CO2 is cheaper...

I reckon renting the cylinder is the say to go if you do a lot of air ups, you can run air tools off CO2 as well, anything you can do with big compressed air. the only downside with BOC is their hours, they're not open weekend or aftter 5 any afternoons :(

wish I could afford *another* cylinder rental :))

d size nitrgen does about 5 tyres but the co2 is stored as a liquid so it lasts heaps longer.
have heard rumours that it is corrosive but f'd if i know.

we use dry nitrogen at work and our regulator cost several hundred dollars - more than the price of a compressor. I haven't had anything to do with CO2 but i think the storage would be an issue in a 4wd enviroment. IF you accidently drop the bottle (eg in a roll over or something) and if the valve becomes damaged you will have a very dangerous missile. I'd suggest a very secure mount.

big red CO2 is corrosive when its dissolved in water - sort of like soft drinks - not highly corrosive but if there's a little bit of water inside your tyre and you air up with CO2 it could potentially do damage especially on alloy rims.

because the CO2 is liquefied it doesn't go quite as ballistic as high pressure compressed gas cylinders when the top is knocked off but it's still dangerous, and the cylinder can stil fly. also can get some nasty burns if you get sprayed with the liquid.
