Superwinch X9 on ARB Bar

Hi Guys,
Has anybody fitted a Superwinch X9 to a ARB winch bar?

I have a 2nd hand X9 (not fitted or even held it up to see if it will fit) but its missing the control box and the motor is burnt out.....Will cost about $800+ for the bits I need....ie new motor and control box.

Ive found 2 winchs in the Trading post but before I go any further I had better ask if you guys have tried one out??

I would usally just go to the shed and have a look but the winch isnt here.....plus its a crap day here in any case !

Any ideas would be good

I don't really know how good or otherwise the Superwinch are compared to a Warn but i recently bought a 9000lb Warn winch of ebay for less than $800. It's in near new condition.

I'd be more inclined to spend less money getting a good warn than spending more and still ending up with a potentially lesser quality winch.

Of course if Superwinch are as good, then all of the above is irrelevant.

superwinch are quite reliable, have a mate who has one (X9, i believe) and its never given him any trouble - think it's up for sale at the moment actually, he just wants a bit faster line speed (no idea why, he just has to have the best of everything). His is mounted in an ARB bar - pretty much any winch will fit in an ARB bar, the mounting pattern is pretty standard.

Price for a new 9000 in ARB catalog is around $1,700. Unless you mean the Magnums?

I fired it up this arvo and it all seems to work. Just got to get around installing it now, so many things already on my to-do list.

Not as big as I would have wanted, but for that price I wasn't prepared to whinge. Might be a bit slower, but I've had a turfor for 10 years and only used it 5-6 times so I made my purchase on that proviso.

Im sure Ive seen a Warn 9000 much cheaper than that...was about $1300-1400.

Good advice from someone who obviously hasn't owned or fitted one

Chinese jobbies work alright its just the gearbox end cant be rotated like most other slow mounts causing the little handle to be in a difficult position to operate.

Second hand high mounts are by far the best value for money around, the are a much better winch by design with much less to go wrong and can be had for anywhere between 500 - 1200 bucks pretty readily out of the trading post

X9s are fine. We've had one for over a year on the Disco, fitted to a TJM bar and it has been thru hell and back. Only problem was a failure of the main earth connecter on the winch body due to corrosicon which caused the unit to somehow earth thru its guts which melted the brush holders a bit.

Made sure the earth is more solid and painted it over for added insurance to stop water/mud corroding the connection. We've also used it to pull trees down for firewood, including winching them up out of gulleys and believe me they pull like a train even on a single line pull (which is all we've ever used).

For 450 dollars new new (off a Gov car) it was a steal I reckon.
