noticed a noise under the roket cover at the front of the motor unsure what it could be, any ideas?
i know the tappets might need doing , as i think the head was done before i bought the car over 12 months ago

tappets in patrols need to be done every 12 months, but can easily need to be done earlier.
Try the trick with a large screw driver and listen for where the knock is coming from exactly.

Im almost sure that your tappets need adjusting. I just did mine on friday and what a difference it made. So much quiter now.
