LJ70 Intercooler

Running a 2LT and fitting an intecooler to it. I had a top mount but found it gets ho and leaks.
I have an intercooler from a Mitsubishi Storm. If I top mount its going to be in the way of the oil filler cap and dip stick.
Any more places to mount it?

in front of your radiator? or anywere just onder the bonnet were it will fit with minimum plumbing..... got any pics

This is from an R33 skyline. Its not huge but fits into the space quite well and is out of the way of the oil cap and dipstick. Everything lines up nicely. I dont think it was getting a huge amount of flow through it due to under bonnet turbulence so i've since ducted it down underneath the car. Seems quite effective now.

i just managed to get a similar intercooler off EBAY for $50 + postage its off a Nissan Silvia S13/180sx its a SR20DET intercooler......... RICER

Now I am stumped!

Without an intercooler my 2LT runs pretty much ok. The boost is set to 11psi, no worries.

With the intercooler connected the boost drops to 5psi, performance drops and there's a large 'Whoosh' sound on acceleration and at speed.
I had assumed my intercooler had a hole in it, as its been welded up a few times.

The other day we found that there is a pressure release valve on the manifold. With the intercooler connected and when the pressure builds up it open with a large, 'Whoosh' sound. With the intercooler disconnected, all is ok.

Any dude know how get rid of the whoosh sound? I would prefer to have the intercooler connected. Wondering if there is some adjustment to make to the pressure valve.

What is this pressure relief valve on the manifold?
Intake or exhaust?
Are u reffering to the exhaust gas recirculating valve?

Have u pressure tested the intercooler yet?
Oh btw what pressure guage are u using? I need to find one for mine.

sounds like a BOV or blow off valve , heaps of kids have them in their Jap turbo cars and you hear a big whoosh all the time when they drive bye slowing down to lights , etc

What it does: The only job a blow-off valve is supposed to perform is to relieve excess turbo pressure that results from shutting the throttle rapidly under boost conditions. This then answers one of the questions we get asked a lot – yes you need a turbo to fit a blow-off valve! Otherwise you will have a rather expensive paper-weight. It is necessary to release this pressure because it will try to find a way out of the system, and the only way is back out through the turbo. This produces a fluttering noise as the air passes backwards through the turbo, which is often unwanted. There is also a school of thought that a blow-off valve can improve turbocharger longevity or, in extreme cases, prevent damage to the turbo.
