diff code decoded
G285 is a 4.3:1 limited slip.
for a 4.556 (closest you can get to 4.5 ratio) your diff code would be G252 (open) or g 255 (limo)

It has been my road car for about 12 years,
it is stock as, with the exception of 35" BFG muds on 10" alloy rims,a bit of suspension lift (no body lift), a ratio change to 4.8 so it goes hard
and a mid wheel base FRP top shortened to fit my Bundera and it looks factory.
It has been a top car, it looks great it goes well and I never put a spanner on it, I hardly drive it these days, my wife wants me to sell it (4 regos and insurance is too much) but I am having trouble with that concept.
Peter.

Yup I have a Bundy.
Red 1985 Model.
Elec sunroof (Factory)
Pwr windows (Factory)
218kw EFI 5ltr V8 (Originally 22R - Gutless)
Tricked up Turbo 700 4 Speed Auto (Originally G52 - Broke)
4.1:1 Diffs
2" Suspension Lift Kit
Cutsom wound Lovell Springs
Koni adjustable shocks
15" Alloys with 32" Tyres.
Lotsa work in the conversion but well worth the effort!!
Bye the way has anyone got a hood lining cover piece for the passenger side front? (You know the bit of plastic that holds the hood lining at the top of the pillar) (I think they are different on a model without a sunroof, need a sunroof model one)
Also can you get replacement knobs for the 3 in 1 combo meters (ie Altimeter adjustment knob)

Skip just be carefull. I not long bough a Hilux that had been imported from Britan and it had a Rover V8 conversion done when it got here. When the guy went to Rego it they refused and the only way he could rego it was to convert back to the factory fitted engine. It was no prob to do the rover engine conversion after it was registered however
Just thought i should bring this up incase you run into the same problem.
dumbdunce: Firstly, these models are not readibly avaliable here, although they are very similar, the australian ones are LJ70's. There might be a lot of LJ70's in the eastern states, but I looked here in Perth for 1 year. In that time I saw 2 overpriced rusted out 250,000+km shitbuckets and one overpriced yellow spew coloured one for $7999. My inport only has 99,000km on it. The plan was to always do a big power engine conversion, so I wanted to get the turbo diesel cause it has the R151f box in it. I also swayed away from BJ70 and FJ70 models cause I wanted the coil springs. Petrol is not a backwards step considering the diesel has a gutless 86 HP. Big 6 and 8 cylinder diesel = more weight, diesels have piss poor power to weight compared to petrol engines, these cars were not designed to carry big hunks of iron up front either. I needed something I could reliably tow my 25ft alli boat, and a bit of a sleeper, to embarase a few people around town. So I went for a toyota 1JZGTE 2.5L IL6 twin turbo, its only got 44,000kms on it, with more boost, good zorst and Haltech management which I have, I will be getting around 280 kW and over 400Nm of torque, 350Nm just after 2000 RPM, on 98 octane fuel. Having the aftermarket management I can lower the boost and run on regular unleaded when towing my boat up north. I have made a few posts in the engine conversion thread. So there are my reasons for swapping engines, sound in theory, in reality I should know by the end of this month.
RUFF: I am going to rego the car as the diesel, then convert it and get it registered again with the petrol.

dont take this the wrong way but i dont think anyone should be baggin people for buying petrol, i looked for ages for a diesel bundy in good nick, didnt find S***.
Thats why i resorted to petrol.
i had muddies on my landy and i know how they sound, seeing its my everday driver as well i am going for all terrains due to the highway driving.
(although the muddies did give me an excuse when the g"friend caught me not listening!!!) hmmm.....

WA has the most relaxed rego laws in the country AFAIK. It's realy stupid how the laws work. Because im only increasing the displacement by 0.1 litres, and the original 2LT is turboed, laws say I wont have a problem, but im increasing the power more than 4 times, ridiculous isnt it? I will still have to get it engineer approved, I am a mechanical engineer, wish I could do it myself, but you need DOT approved engineers :(
I havent really contemplated insurance, perhaps I might be able to insure it 3rd party fire and theft dunno. If you are reading this topic BUNDERA what are you going to do about insurance? I suppose if you are really enthusiastic about doing something you tend not to care about these things
We will see how the diffs hold up, ive seen some pretty darn powerful cars with G series diffs!!! Mine is the 4 pinion LSD model, did RJ70 or LJ70 come with 4 pinion?
dumbdunce: Considering manual 1JZGTE's had an R154, do you think there is any chance the R151f-2LT bellhousing will bolt up to the 1JZ block or am I just hoping for a bit too much? If not do you think a 1JZGTE-R154 bellhousing will bolt onto the R151f? How much unity is there between Toyota engines and gearboxes? I suppose I will find this out later on this week anyway.

LJ70's and possibly later RJ's have the 4 pinion LSD, or 4 pinion E locker as an option - not often seen though.
I think if you use the bellhousing that goes with your new motor it bolts to the R151F gearbox, Bundera would be the man to ask. now if you were going to stick a 1KZ-TE in there then I could help you :)
I have an R150F gearbox from a 1990 LJ78 here I can pull the bellhousing off and photo for you if you want to compare bolt patterns with your chosen engine etc?
cheers

Unfortunately I just bought the engine, I didnt get a bellhousing with it. Manual 1JZs are extremely rare. I would say ill just have to buy a R154 bellhousing from the wreckers, or get a new one from dellow. I think the best thing to do is not worry about it untill I lift the motor out, then deal with it.
