this is the alloy water pump housing, i've taken the thremostat out and saw this hole there, is it supposed to be there? it looks like it has a machined face on the part thats let there. would like to know if its ok before i fill it up with coolant.

looks like a recess for the bottom of the thermostat to sit in?

I could be wrong, however
