spring lift

Hey all,
i realise this has probably already been covered 1 million times but im at work and cant search. Even if you can just send me a link.
my car is in drastic need of some new springs (sitting 1" off the bump stops).
But my whole predicament is i want to lift my car 2" (suspension lift), but i havent got the cash to change the shocks just yet, and they are standard shocks. I was just wondering am i able to put 2" higher springs in my car without changing the shocks?
This is probably a really dumb question but i have to do something about this pretty fast and i dont want to have to buy 2 sets of springs.

Your existing standard shocks will stop your 2 inch longer springs from extending fully.

So you won't get the full benefit of them being 2 inches longer. It will still sit higher by 2 inches you will just still only have the max spring extension you have at the moment as this is restricted by the fully extended length of the shock.

That being said, I don't see a problem with this and when you can affford longer shocks you will get the full benefit of your longer springs.

ok so it shouldnt be a problem. I just didnt want to have to buy 2 sets of springs. im just worried about topping them out. them being the shocks.
By the way its on an 80 series.

Well I think you will be ok.

Shocks always top out. Thats pretty much the only thing that controlls your max lift and stops the springs dropping out the cups.

So I guess they are designed to do it. Can't see that the added pressure of 2 inch longer springs is going to make much difference.
