tb42 straight gas + turbo q's

Post by blade828 »

i have got a 1988 tb42 carby which is on dual fuel at the moment. i havn't used pertol on this in a long time as i have never been able to getting it working properly. Do i need to put it into a gas shop to get changed to straight gas or can i remove the petrol stuff myself? what needs to be removed/changed? I also want to turbo charge it after its on straight gas. The engine has just clocked up 290k but i have never had problems with it and still runs perfect, should i rebuild the whole engine or just upgrade some parts or will the engine be ok? im sure i will have plenty more questions, thanks guys :D

look into Artificial_Aspirations build up thread. 'TB42 no longer boat anchor' or something.

Has a run down on what parts he used and what he did with his turbo, might be a good place to start. Seems there was a bit of fab work for his manifolds etc but other wise reasonably straight forward.

yeah i have had a look at his thread and a few others which have gave me some idea's. Mostly wondering if i should rebuild or not, because if i dont then that leaves me more to spend on the gas and turbo set up.

BOOST it first, my Last GQ did over 450000km when I sold it and It still wasn't useing oil. If anything I would get the Head rebuilt, valves, seals guides, seats and decked

thanks mate, i have heard of these motor's getting boosted with high km's and still running fine. Would 6-8psi be reasonable? I would most likely get the usual head mods done to suit straight gas.

Anyone have any idea if i can change my car from duel fuel to straight gas myself? I have currently got the Impco 300a mixer and a 'L' converter in there for the gas, would this be suitable for a turbo set-up or should i get something else?
