Winch solenoids.. Now with pics!!!!
So i got me winch solenoid from Beretta whilst in the big smoke.. MAN these things are a pisser..
For less than a couple of hundred bucks (except P&H) you can rid yourself of the failing solenoid woes that can wreck a good weekend or a comp for you in seconds. One unit that does the job of the four usual ones. It works a ripper, for all intents and purposes appears to be water proof, is small enough to mount anywhere and is a piece of piss to wire up. Just three small terminals for switching and your four main posts. One for Battery power, one for the armetuer and two fields.. Easy peasy!!!
200 bucks well spent and a must if you want reliability from your winch.
I have seen this exact same solenoid is retailed through other stores (not naming for obvious reasons) for over 400 bucks... These are all the rage in the states and i can see why..
PM Beretta if you're interested or let me know and i'll pass on your details to him..
As far as an indecent proposal goes, I'd accept nothing less than $100,000 to tolerate buggery. Any less and it's just not worth the psychological trauma.
I second the above, I managed to swindle one of the first two he got and have been running it for a while now. After some checking to make sure these small things do the same job as the four originals was pleasantly surprised to find these are the solenoid of choice for 90% of whinch challenge vehicles.

Geez lads, thanks for the support! Good to get some feedback, much appreciated! I'm getting them out there a bit now, got them on two comp trucks now, plus yours and they're giving hassle free service which is awesome, considering one of the trucks had blown the OEM solenoid packs and they were only a few months old.
If anyone has any questions or wants some info feel free to PM me or email me at paul_beretta@hotmail.com, even if you have brought one from someone else (usually without wiring instructions) email me and I can give you some very straight forward instructions free of charge, I'm more than happy to help and answer any questions.
I'll also be at Willowglen this weekend and will have some with me there and can demo the set up on my truck if people are curious at all.
Cheers, Paul

Seriously
If WARN can't get their act together after all these years, claiming their winches are the best for extreme conditions, and actually advertising their winches using extreme footage taken from exetreme competitions, well than someone like yourself will profit from this.
Not denying WARN has agreat winch, but when you pay good money on a product you would like to actually see it perform and last for what it's designed to do.
It would be like buying a can of coke without the syrup. You wouldn't be able to buy a can of coke without the syrup, because coke wouldn't allow it.
If your going to sell a product, sell it complete ready to hall arse. Not to have to spend another $1500.00 modifying the thing.
Good luck with these solenoids Paul, because this type of product your selling is what should come standard with Warn winches and I hope you do well.
I've seen the product and after a small tast of what a std winch can't do in extreme/recreational conditions this solenoid will relieve many headaches.
You don't have machined shafts with a tapped hole to fit a cir clip locking cap do you? Just something else that us poor guys had to learn the hard way. If you don't have the shaft modified, the arse/brakes fall out of your new winch.( actually could be a serious safety issue, specially if your hanging a 2.5ton vehicle of a wall and the brake assembly shits it self).
What about 6HP motors, because our new motor in our new winch also burnt out.
Can't blame Warn for that though, they were long river crossings.
GOOD LUCK!
Regards

Winch Main Shafts
Gigantor,
I am supplying modified main shaft assemblies as a kit that you can fit yourself. If you have a look at some of the feedback from the XI in QLD, alot of competitors have had trouble with braking the main shafts on the gearbox. The main shafts I am supplying have been tested in competition vehicles here and o/s and are unbreakable. They come with shims to located the gears to maintain full tooth contact as well as the bolt and cap arrangement in the end of the shaft to eliminate potential circlip failure.
Give me a call if you are interested 0429 363 745

Definately looking at doing an upgrade kit as such for highmounts and lowmounts, also obviously selling the components separately.Mudzuki wrote:Aftermarket 6hp motor? What about a package deal for solinoid and motor if it goes ahead?
With the highmounts, we want to do the Solenoids, 6hp motors and the shaft upgrade, I will then look at setting up a kit to do the back bracing on the drum also.
Smithy I'll give you a ring!
Bruce, I will have a temporary page up within the next few days hopefully, Shane Barlow from ORP has kindly offered to put up a temp page for me until I get all set up so I'll post the link up in the next day or so. After that we should have a full website up ASAP with a few goodies on it, special stuff hopefully like these solenoids and 6hp motors and some other cool bits.
i also play with winches and have checked these albrite units, never got one cause there only 100amp continuous. youll find under high load you'll be drawing more like 3-400amps. i can see problems.Coighty wrote:I second the above, I managed to swindle one of the first two he got and have been running it for a while now. These are not the old units you are referring to, these are un upgraded model an d are rated at 200amp continuous, they no longer have the spade terminals on the coil either, they are a screw in terminal. Also the issue that brings down standard winch solenoids is not necesserily the amp pull it is the carbon build up on the contacts during switching due to arching which eventually welds themselves on into a closed circuit. These solenoids have silver plated contacts which resist arching and carbon build up and they are also designed to go to open circuit if in the event they do fail as opposed to the old school solenoids.
The 100amp ones are used by some of the toughest winch challenge trucks in the country and they rave about them.
Anyway, sorry mate but in this thread we're talking about a slightly different product, looks the same but better.

I think you'll find that the round steel solenoids that are used in the four solenoid pack are all 100 amp continuous rated anyway.... I don't know about the flatter black ones they are using now though...gqpete wrote:i also play with winches and have checked these albrite units, never got one cause there only 100amp continuous. youll find under high load you'll be drawing more like 3-400amps. i can see problems.Coighty wrote:I second the above, I managed to swindle one of the first two he got and have been running it for a while now. These are the best i've seen on the market as far as specs go. Unless someone else knows of a 400 amp continuous 12V solenoid. 200 amp continuous with silver tipped contacts should take some killing i reckon..

your 200amp continuous solonoids wont give enough juice to the winch therefore it will run hotter under load and increase the risk of burning out the motor.ads80 wrote:doesent a 6hp moter require up to 440amps under full load
the more amps the cooler more eficiant your winch will run and last s#$tloads longer. my 2.2cents worth

Pete, no dramas with what you're saying mate, this is a forum and your opinon is welcome, in principle on numbers you have a sound arguement, what makes these different is design and it's efficiency as I mentioned earlier.
My simple question then is why are all the comp trucks running these things with much greater reliability than the "normal" solenoids if they're not up to it?
I could name a heap of trucks that have won or placed in the top ten in events like the Outback Challenge and ATECO etc that have been running these for years and they're running 6hp motors and big multi battery set ups and doing massive pulls with their winches and they love these solenoids over the traditional ones. Ah, and they're the 100amp rated ones! So I think those results speak for themselves really.
To be honest I've done my best to destroy these things and it doesn't seem to worry them, mines mounted not that far away from the exhaust manifold too because I wanted to see how it would last in the hottest area under the bonnet and to be honest, so far it's laughing at me!

Okay heres some photos of my set up for those who PM'd me for pics, hopefully the links work!
This pic has the the winch control panel inside the cab. The red "missile switch" is to activate the winch, then the toggle switch beside it is basically push up for cable out, or push down for cable in. The "missile Switch" set up has worked well for me as a safety, winch can't opeate unless you turn that on first so it controls the coil for sitching.
