rear locker..
can i put a locker from a 80 series front diff in to a hilux rear diff? the locker in question is an electric locker from a sahara.
the arb air locker rb23 is used in both the front landcruiser and the rear of the hilux- i think.

Actually ill clarify..
The centre it self is
/A slightly different to accomodate the electric motor
/B the Diff housing id aslo different to accomodate the engagement unit.
/C the left (sorry right if fitted to rear) axle also need to be replaced to allow the engagment gear to locate and slide on to the axle.....
So basically...If you want to stick in the factory lockers you have to swap out the whole live axle assembly...which is difficult for you as its the rear you want to fit and the centre your fitting is from the front....
Unless you want 4 wheel steer
If you get stuck...let me know as i know someone with an 80 who may want it..

The axles are the same.
The housing needs to be modified slightly and 2 holes need to be drilled and studs installed and the housing slightly clearenced.
The locker does not lock on the axle.
But to answer the original Question. Yes it will fit in the rear but it will not last due to it being a High pinion centre and reverse cut gears.

ruff is right about the axle/spline, and I don't know why I thought it was different. maybe the 80 rear elocker is different? maybe, like the airlocker, sometimes its necessary to trim the axle a little near the spline so the clutch (toyota)/extended carrier (arb) clear the axle. maybe I was just making stuff up :-/

i have had 3 or 4 airlockers and helped a mate fit a cable locker.
none needed an axle trimming or anything and they all had stock axles. the rear e-locker we fitted to the rear of a mates 40! standard 40 housing, all the gear was attached to the centre itself and essentially, bolted in, cable converted though!
hands and mums dont count!!!
