Disc break rear end

Post by Thomo81 »

I have recently converted the rear of my hilux to discs. Ever since i have had problems getting a full pedle on the first application. Caused by pad nock off from excessive run out of the rotor which is caused from the axle flanges not being straight. Has any one else had this problem and how can i fix it..

What master cylinder/booster combination are you running, this could also cause troubles with not enough fluid pressure to operate calipers.
Cheers,

How do the slides look on the calipers. Because if they are worn and the caliper does not float then you will get Pad Knock off because the Hilux is only semi floating so the disc will never run totaly true no matter what you do. There is always some in and out movement in this type of set up.

If everything appears OK the only other thing you could use but i wouldnt recomend for a road car isd a residual valve which allows a small amount of preasure to remain in the line to stop pad knock off. Lots of race cars use these.

if they are second hand calipers they may need new seals and possibly new pistons. One we bought from the wreckers were indeed wrecked cause they had been sitting around and had corroded. This causes ait in the system. New pistons and seals fixed it.
