50mm body lift now need to bend High/Low lever - 80 series

Post by g35me »

Has anyone heated and bent the High/Low lever for clearence with their body lift. Does the lever come off or does it have to be done from inside the cabin? (would be hard)

The gear levers unbolt from the gearbox inside the car.. Pull out the low range lever and cut it in the vertical section and lengthen it 50mm, zap it with the mig and your done... With the gearstick pull it out and bend it with a hydraulic press...

Zap it good and PROPER with the mig.

Mine broke 120km from the nearest accomodation point and about 270km from the nearest big town where I could get it rewelded.

Driving with a pair of 5" vice grips as a gearstick really sucks, you get a lot of noise, stink and heat coming into the cabin.

The best thing the do when lengthening sticks is to bore a hole in eather end of a larger diameter peice of bar then insert the gearstick pieces before welding. Providing there is space to fit the bigger bar, it only needs to be about 5mm bigger on diameter though.

Cheers Struth.

Sure is mate.. if u lok down the stick when u have to boot off.. then u will see a bolt/nut that holds the stick to the lever on the box.. all ya gotta do is losten it then push the lever either forwards or bac till its where u want ;)
