Nice story there Gribble ( i won't quote it as it's so long).
Was a great weekend, caught up with some outers' dudes and dudettes, congrats to Drop Bear on 2nd place ( i work with him so i'd better say it).
Was a bit disappointed in the wombat holes this year - they weren't as deep as the last two times i've been, and don't think there were rocks either. Still, was some good action.
Now just got to keep building my truck and get out there!!

Yeah, I was disapointed with the holes too. The touring class seemed like it would have been more fun and challenging then the trophy side.Stackson45 wrote:Was a bit disappointed in the wombat holes this year - they weren't as deep as the last two times i've been, and don't think there were rocks either. No worries, thanks for the booze.diesel028 wrote:Gribble, sounds you like and Drop Bear had a good (read: long) drive home. and thanks heaps for bringing the diff down for me
Drop Bear, good drive mate, glad to see the Lux did well, at least until the trip home anyway
It was VERY anticlimatic. I think camping on the side of a four lane highway and hearing nothing but exhaust brakes all night was the worst.
But...
We got home.

guys, the touring class wombat holes werent all that good either, i had permission to drive them this morning, and it was a walk in the pak, they are not as deep as youd think once you drove them, i did about 4 or so laps throught them, markil wrote:Yeah, I was disapointed with the holes too. it was close on points in trophy. I was a bit shocked to get so many, as I broke my track bar on the second stage I did, but still managed 100 points on it.
just crawled all the rest of the tracks in 1st gear and managed some good scores, just couldn't do the hill climbs in anything other than 1st as a bounce in 2nd or 3rd would snap the track bar again!
even managed to crawl the mud after stalling at the 10 point mark!.
some good drives and very well behaved crowds.
was good to catch up with some of the OL guys again!
was also glad to see soo many zooks out there!

Thanks to TLCC for a top weekend. Just the usual minor delays etc but it wouldn't be a 4x4 comp without those type of things.
A big thanks to MUD80D (Reece) for standing in for our team at the last minute, much appreciated mate.
Our personal achievements (Car 223) can be best described as a rollercoaster ride. Saturday we had a great day, we finsihed the day with 355 points and were sitting in equal second place. Now I dont know if knowing how good you've done breeds complacency or what but thats where our weekend took a turn for the worse.
Sunday started ok, with a 100 on the wombat holes. Then 'All shook up' ended quickly at the top of the pyramid - say no more. 'Gullied Out' or whatever it was called finished in a heap twisted metal. Just as we started the first hill climb we broke a rear axle which loaded up the front diff so much that we popped the 2 front CV's. Yep yep yep!!!
That was it for us. The damage obviously put paid to our weekend. We had a DNS in the mud and a long trip home on the back of a flat top truck, which we must thank Paul for.
I've uploaded some photos of the weekend at Well Sprung 4x4
Congrats to those that took out the placings.

Had a good weekend away. The patrol went fine with nothing broken.
I enjoyed driving the obstacles when i made it that far.
.most fun event for me was the waterafall on day 1 which i only got 50
I struggled with the narrow courses and wide tray so points are not the best.
Regarding the waiting.it wasnt too bad.
with nissan trials coming up.there will be long waits

Don't know about anyone else, but watching Mud80D's vid of the mud run was extremely dissapointing; no offence. Last year those holes were heaps deeper. I saw a much bigger truck than Mud80D almost dissapear in three of the holes and all the suzukis floated through the last hole. Kinda sounds like it was a bit easier this year? Any opinions?

I thought Day 1 tracks were harder then last year and Day 2 tracks were easier... but that was just me
Wombat holes should go up one and back down the other. not 2 seperate ones because it is too easy and short for the crowd

Alot of cars were getting stuck in the 1st hole, some people got a second go at it. Last year I left early because we weren't gonna do the mud and this year I watched a few cars have a go at it and then I left also. I've seen too many cars get screwed up in the mud, and when you've gotta drive home afterwards it's usually not worth the risk for a few extra points. I like that idea, I thought the wombat holes looked like a deadset walkover for 99% of the competitors I watched, trophy and touring.BIG ZOOK wrote:Wombat holes should go up one and back down the other. not 2 seperate ones because it is too easy and short for the crowd
The logs shouldn't be changed though, because just about everyone in a patrol got stuck and just about everyone in a toyota got through.

That run jus made it look easy, most were gettin stuck in either the first hole or the ones in the 2nd and last. Thas why they got the excavator in shortly after and dug it out which caused more problems coz the ones that got stuck at the 10 point winged and got another go.Guy From Nowhere wrote:Don't know about anyone else, but watching Mud80D's vid of the mud run was extremely dissapointing; no offence.
