Hi my name is Sally and I own a range rover 3.9 fuel injected automatic made December 1989 . We have been having problems with it dieing while driving its like it runs out of fuel but it has plenty of fuel. Sometimes when this happens you can just start it again and it goes for ages and other times it just wont start at all. Other times it will start then conk out again a few meters or k's down the road. Could this be a computer problem or the electronic censor on the motor. can anyone shed some light on wat this is please
Had this exact problem - The wires on the Ignition Amplifier module were making a bad contact. Engine would suddenly die, I'd stop and check a few things under the hood and then we'd be back in business. It would almost always be fine after I cleaned out the fuel filter... (Which is right near the amplifier for the ignition.) This went on for many months - I gave up finding the issue and spent $1000's at various repair places, with no luck. They replaced most of the fuel system. Then One day I was setting the timing and happened to lean on the amplifier module connector, and it stalled. Took 10 minutes to clean up the contacts and redo the connector, and it's never been a problem since....
However that was on a 85 rangie with carbies... the 89 has a similar ignition module, but also has the EFI to deal with... So the above might be of no use to you at all...

there are loads of things it could be, here are few
1 fuel filter blocked - replace with new one
2 fuel pump faulty - try to induce it ti stall to see if fuel pump working
3 power suply to fuel pump faulty-check wires and relays
4 ignition fault - check coil and ignition amplifier
5 fuel tank breather pipe blocked - check the pipes are not blocked
6 air flow meter faulty
7 ecu fault
