4Y-c stalling at idle

Post by crunch »

Didn't get an answer out of General tech, so I'll try here...

Motor is a 4Y-c (2.2L petrol carby)
Toyota 4Runner, 89 (old shape)

Motor does flood on occasion as it has a weak spark (I think this is irrelevant to current problem)

Getting too much air over dunes will also cause it to flood, but it's usually a case of letting it blow itself out and she's sweet.

Last week I went to stockton, and hit a dune a bit too hard (unintentionally), it coughed and spluttered and flooded, but as I'm used to it I got it going again. But now, it stalls if I don't keep the revs up above 1000rpm. It is a pain in the ass in traffic as it stalls when you're pulling up at lights.

Any help?? :?

Had the same problem and it when away after a tune.
Now that you are in the big smoke get a rebuil kit for your carby on parra rd burwood next to the bus depot or buy a brand new carby for about 200 of the net.
Why do you have a weak spark?
I have a electronic dizzy or two

I think the weak spark is just due to the dizzy being on it's last lrgs..

I've been avoiding spending too much on it as I really (really really really) want to get the commonwhore motor in it.

I might just have to get it done for the time being though....

Haha. Purist.

It does pull along nicely, I'll admit. I just want a bit more go out of it....

Consider that Dizzy sold, I'll let you know when I'm up there next ;)

have you checked your float and needle and seat settings in the carby. it may be flooding at idle. either that may be your idle port is blocked.

does your carby have a idle cut off solenoid? is that working?
