My DIY dual battery install 02 GU patrol

Ok as im heading to moreton on wednesday I thought I'd better install a dual battery system to run my fridge and camping light.
I used a Redarc Smart battery isolator, I chose the redarc because it performed well in my old GQ.
from the engine bay I ran the wires through the rubber boot
Image into the passenfer side foot well then along the side step into the rear down the passenger side foot well
I ran the wires to the spare access panel near the passenger side rear door.

I made a new plate from aluminium and painted it grey to match the interior.. it still pretty rough and i will pretty it up when i get home Both plugs have an automatic reset fuse behind the panel.

in the engine bay the wire is run along the firewall in the black split tubing to tidy it up and zip tied
im pretty happy with the job so far and is as professional looking as I can get it.

I would like to however swap the battery tray for a proper ARB dual battery tray as i have just used a generic supercheap one

Breaker (or fuse) should be located as close as possible to the battery, not at the back of the vehicle. (Cant see on in your photos)

If that was to short out behind that panel of yours, the whole car would catch on fire as that whole cable will go up.

Id suggest (if you havent already got one) put a fuse close to the battery.

If you already have a fuse at battery end ignore this obviously :) .

Also i have heard that you can get moulded rubber boots specially made for the redarc units which insulates the post and terminals. When i installed one in a HJ75 i mounted a box over it to make sure any tools or things cannot short out on it.

Shadow thanks for you reply, I have a nother fuse near the battery and between the redarc, I just thought i would add another one in the back panel just in case,

But it is definetely a good point :)

what sized wire did you run down the back?

2 6mm cables for positive power and earth to a screw in the rear, no voltage drop :)

Thanks for the pics, only problem is the wife was looking over my shoulder when I looked at it and now all I here is "Are you going to make THAT look like the one in the photo's we saw"!

I still trying to talk her into letting put in a car PC :) with LCD screen in the dash where the cd player goes :)..... more begging reqiured though
