hi just wondering if anyone knows what changes i will need to make to convert my v8 f250 4x4 fron C4 auto to FMX AUTO ??? would it just be a matter of bolting str8 up ? as i have a fully recon fmx sitting gathering dust

Won't it be a C6 in your truck? Removable bellhousing, alloy case is C4, fixed bellhousing alloy case is C6, and removable bellhousing, iron case is FMX. Unless it does not much work, or you really can't afford to rebuild the C6, and it is completely stuffed, I would steer clear of the FMX.

Is it 4x4? It is not divorced transfer? You will find it hard to get an adaptor for the transfer, and the spline count may be wrong.

Pretty sure there's no C4's in 4x4's, only C6's
And C4 is heaps tougher than FMX anyway

my f250 is remote (divorced transfer) so how hard is it to change to C6 ?

I thought it was only EB's, not F trucks. Not in the 70's anyway.

the fmx is old, and quite weaker than your other options.
if you are going to be using a secondhand one it probably wont last that long anyway and aftermarket parts are getting a bit thin

FMX was used in the big LTD's and large cars back in the states in the 70's-80's. I made a mistake by swapping out 302ci to a 400m and backed it up with a FMX. lasted ,,,,, 2 months. followed by the rear end (what a sound that made) Spend ths $ and find a C6 with a 9".

I'm pretty sure all F250's are Dana 60 rear.

Unless it had $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ spent on it, I don't reckon a 9" is going to be stronger than a full floating D60.

The only thing stronger about a D60 ff over a 9" would be the Axle/Hubs. The D60 centre would be equal, at best. The axles would be stronger, only due to the FF design, verses the stupid F truck 9" Tapered bearing.

I killed the axle bearing in my F150 9", and have upgraded to the Chev 14b ff. Very strong, probably not as big as an equal Dana (but huge all the same)
