bullbar repair Pics now loaded

Post by wrksux »

my bullbar has broken the welds on one side from an acident i had yesterday

the bar was moded for a 2"lift by the PO and im not sure if the weld that broke was his, to me it looks like it was. the bar is now at an angle and needs to be straightend. firstly is this possible and how would i go about it.

secondly can it be re welded and used safely, on recovery points are on teh bar so that is not an issue, it is a winch bar but most likely wont have a winch for some time or will get a new bar whant the time comes if necciery

im going to put some pics up asap but its only the passenger side and the weld hasnt broken all the way through.

Cheers
Tim

My bad she is steel. wont need much force to straighten out. and then re welded and probly have some plate or gusset's welded to it to stregthen it.

will anyworkshop be able to do this? i have no welding ability so i need help of this one

Define "safely" :)

If your vehicle is not equipped with airbags, then there isn't much of a problem.

ofr57 said it: blowtorch, hammer and a MIG/TIG will make short work of it ...

Might not be an easy job tho! depending on where it's bent ...
If it's worth doing - it's worth doing to excess ...

Ive bent wings and mounts in the past.
Always been able to straighten out by pulling back from a tree and rewelding any cracks.

18 yo comp insurance is like 3grand, so i have 3rd party fire n theft. and a big excess because of my age and now because im going to have a claim on it :?

i hit of all things a mercedes  cant make excuses could blame a lot of things. ran straight up the other car's ass at probly 20. brakes locked up. bullbar bent back and shatterd both indicator lense's on the car so i need a new set for both sides now.

only plus was no one was hurt and it was low speed so the other drivers car is driveable and hopefully wont need much done to it, new boot lid and tail light assembly.

pics comming tonight when i get home from work

had a thorough look this morning both mounts broke the welds but not badly. will only need to be rewelded and probly have a gusset put in to prevent this happening again should be very simple

Might be a good thing they broke the welds. Assuming they tore and didnt pull away (bad welds)
Absorbed some shock. If too stiff could of damaged Benz even more.

RELAX :D . I was in exact same situation as you about 3 months ago, and your insurance premiums/excesses wont increase as it's only 3rd party, but if you want to go for comprehensive in the near future it might affect it

When i had my acco i'm pretty sure it was a fair bit more than 20k's, but i harldy coped any damage  - and with an alloy bar :? . Bar just bounced back, hit the panel leaving a nice mark, and bounced back to it's original position :? other car was pretty severly stuffed (looked like nothing though), 6k worth of damage and it was only a liteace

And the best "comprehensive" insurance for an under 25 is 3rd party fire/theft and a big bullbar :D

The bar has coped some other damage offroad that i rekon weakend it.
anyway the welds broke a bit, any more than 20k i rekon and some serious damage woudl have occourd to the other car.

Unfortunatly the money that i have to pay out now was going to get me a set of tyres to take offroad

pics will be up momenterally

I think its worth putting a bit of plate on there to reinforce it.

Is this a good price on a set of indicators i need em asap, any cheap wreckers round melb i should give a call on the weekend?

Its better to have a bar bend than your chassis.

Just another bit of info for brain food
