I need to replace the CV's in my old faithful ute.
Can I pull the swivel hubs off the diff housing without having to first remove the brake rotor/ hub/ wheel bearings off the stub axle????
I dont really want to pull the rotors etc off if I dont need to, plus I dont have the 54mm socket to undo the retaining nut . I only really need to replace the CV's, inner oil seal & the wiper seals on the knuckles.
Also how do you install the snap rings on the inside of the CV to the inner axle shaft????
Thanks guys,
Mytqik.

2005 GU3 Patrol ST Ute
reread... you cant rip it appart that way...its brakes off first
Best way to seperate axle from cv is to put a piece of pipe in the vice and bang the axle through the pipe till the cv pops off. Otherwise you will be there with your gregories all week tryin to flog crap out of it and getting nowhere...

Take off the free wheeling hub and take the circlip off the cv
Unbolt the steering arms and bearing cap
Unbolt the knuckle seal covers on the back
Take the whole knuckle/rotor/hub off in one go. Its heavy though and can be a pain to get back on also make sure you have some where to put it, if your brake lines are long enough you could put it on the ground otherwise build up some bricks or whatever and rest it on that.
I think thats it i havent done it for a while.

yeah undo the circlip behind the freewheel hub the disconnect brake line not many long enough to put on ground and do not let it hang of it. then take of steering arms and top and bottom king pins and pull of when putting it bank on best to get some one to help although i have done it on my own with a big of helpful language as the bottom bearing trys fall out. but better than taking the wheel bearings apart i think
