Can you use an AGM 100ah as a cranking battery?

Post by shorty_f0rty »

Just wondering if anyone is aware of anything in regards to this (good or bad).

Considering replacing my normal 700CCA starting battery with my AGM 100ah battery to debug some charging issues..

Any feedback is appreciated.

Cheers,

Andrew

Does your AGM have a CCA rating?

Although AGM batteries can generally deliver higher current than traditional "deep cycle" batteries they won't necessarily deliver as much starting current as a traditional starting battery.

But a 100Ah AGM is a fair sized battery, and I would expect it to be able to deliver a significant cranking current, so it's worth trying. You would only damage the battery if you allow it to overheat, by cranking for too long. If your AGM doesn't start your engine quickly, don't keep trying.

For starting in the garage etc, can you parallel up two batteries with jumper cables?
