2f vs 3f
i run a 2f atm in my 60 but its really quite tired and i have the option of buyin a 3f thats had a lil minor work in the grunt department
my question is what are the major differences between these engines
i know the 3f is a 4L and has more power from the factory but will it slot staright in place of the 2f or are modifications required?>
if so what are we talking?
bellhousings? engine mounts?
any help would be greatly appreciated
cheers

Just got a cruiser with a 2f and no compression between 1 and 2.
Its a 4speed and was still doing 110 on the freeway.
Took the head off today and the gasket was blown between the cylinders,
That engine is a tractor engine I rekon they is bulletproof and I cant wait for the extra torque of another 2 cylinders

If you dont have panel damage you ain't trying hard enough
I am also interested in peoples opinions on this motor. I have a 2f that i think has burnt out valves & is making no power and using more and more fuel. Should i be fixing up the 2f or swapping in the 3f thats in reasonable nic???
went there dressed up, came back messed up

When you take out the dipp stick do you get blow back coming out of the hole? If so your rings may be gone its a sign of pressue going past them.kranked_dirt wrote:I am also interested in peoples opinions on this motor. It is the first head I have taken off and was easy. I got a qoute for somone to recon the head at 380 and am sure you could do a swap at about 500. You have to do all the work yourself and it can be done in a weekend if you have a head ready. THe gasket kit cost 80 and it includes all the gaskets for the top end.
Was speaking to the lad where I got the gasket and he asked if it had done many Ks And I replied with yes its done 380000 He rekons that F all for this motor

yeh i was pretty certain t6hat the 2f had more tourque but i just basically wanna now the interchangability of components from each engine?
it looks as if they are pretty similar
i was jus lookin at rebuiling the 2f and givin it sum extra grunt maybe a low blow supercharger?

i changed a 2f 4 speed to a 3f 5 speed in a 60 series a few years ago
dropped motor and 5 speed straight into it just modified the tailshafts to fit
from memory only other things i had to do was make a few brackets to hold some of the fuel system bits on the guards as the donor car as a was 70 series

My 02c. The 2F has more torque at very low revs. The 3F was a redesign to make the motor more revable and to give better performance at town and highway speeds. The 3F feels more user friendly at 100ks especially. After say 20 to 30 kph the 3F seems more powerful and revable to me. Even the 3F has what seems like diesel torque for a petrol motor.
