Fitting 35" mudders to a 1984-1987 Hilux / Diff Relocat
Hi all , I have a 1984 Hilux single cab of which I currently run 33" mudders on 15x10 sunraysias. I have a set of 35" mudders on 15X13 custom made sunraysias that I am going to fit to my hilux . There are no problems fitting these on the rear as I test fitted these once before when I built my custom tray but i have problems up front with the tyres hitting on the rear of the front guards when turning let alone full compression. The 33s have no problems turning but also hit on full compression. I DO NOT want to fit a body lift. But by moving the Diff forward 35mm & 2" Spring Lift also cutting the rear of the front guards will this give me enough clearance on turning & compression. Any Thoughts ? Let me know . Has anyone else fitted 35s to this model Hilux & how ? Thanks- Trent
Mine on a ln106 still hit a little with the diff moved foward (unknowen distances i bought it moded) looks like the centre pin hole is drilled right at the back of the diff perch. 2.5 cab lift i think and fairly heavy handed with a FBH (F'n big hammer) once i go crossover i'll know an exact mesurement on diff relocation with the drag link you will have to get a shorter one or go to cross over/hi steer should be ok tho just try it
plenty of parts on the bench

Quick question springs to mind, what width tyre do you have that requires a 13" wide rimTassie Trent wrote:Hi all , I have a 1984 Hilux single cab of which I currently run 33" mudders on 15x10 sunraysias. With a tyre wide enough to warrant a 13" wide rim you'll need to tend to the steering setup on a hilux, likewise you'll need to plate the chassis to handle the extra load. In which case you may as well do RUF with crossover steering.
Many shops sell dif relocation plates that bolt between the diff and the spring to move it 20-25mm. You'll need to do a wheel alignment and maybe get an adjustable drag link to compensate for moving the diff forward.

Why you don't touch anything to do with toe and with 13" wide rims there is no hope of getting your sai and scrub radius right. So chances are it'll drive like a heap of no matter what you do. mine does and i either put up with it when i have to and have smaller road tyres and rims. That also makes for longer bearing life. You'll need to do a wheel alignment

THE EASIEST WAY TO STOP THEM RUBBING AT THE FIREWALL IS TO USE REAR SPRINGS IN FRONT. THE FRONT EYE TO THE CENTRE PIN IS 20.5 IN. INSTEAD OF 22.5 IN. JUST GRAB A SET OFF EBAY OR A WRECKERS AND GET RID OF THE OVERLOAD LEAVES.YOU MAY NEED TO USE LEAVES FROM YOUR OLD FRONTS TO GET IT SITTING RIGHT.GOOD LUCK
if u putt rears in the f u then need cross over for it to work proply i had 35s on my lux and all i had was a 2 inc body lift and redriled spring percers 1.5 inc foward and 2inc hangers and 2inc shackles and the never even rubed i now have 38s and i have only gone foward another 1 inc and gave the fire wall some loving moving the diff dosenot affect the wheel aliment only the wheel base and if the holes are redriled in the right spot it will be fine and if u buy the plates it should be spot on anywy u will also need an adjustable torq arm or shorten the std arm
Or you could pruchase these

the 3 hole perches so you can put 35" and 38" on if you want but make sure you tailshaft is long enough.
Oh yeah i have 35" on my lux and i moved the diff forward 1" and did a bit of guard chopping mainly the seam behind plastic cover in the wheel arc needs to be cut and welded
