Bru its sad that your not going to 2006 OBC - a few kiwi guys are interested in looking over your rig.
I have a GQ shorty with a LT1 chevy fitted and was interested in your clutch specs.
Yes mine is a 11 inch chevy with heavy duty Nissan pressure plate. But I am looking at something more heavy duty. I see that the Exedy Safari Tuff Truck ones are not available for non Jap engines. So I need to look elsewhere.
What setup are the boys in Aussie running behind there LS1 engines
cheers Worthog

worthog who likes to play in the mud, just follow me, if you can
as i said an 11 inche old school chev clutch, plate etc no nissan as it is before the spigot shaft. the adaptor has a 4"long spigot shaft hence the shaft spline is the only nissan part (spline shape only) everything else is old chev, flywheel is ls1. on my old lt1/toyota i used a toyota 75 series plate inside a chev pressure plate and never had any dramas

If anyone is planning on doing this conversion I have a pdf copy of the Ford Technician Notes
"EEC-IV Electronic Engine Control Version IV MP EFI & EFI (CFI); EA FALCON, NA FAIRLANE, DA LTD "
These notes explain the whole engine management setup and lists the various diagnostic codes for the ECU. Send me a PM and I will e-mail it to you. It's a 5Mb file so you would not want to be on dial-up.

Mulisha, by straight gas do you mean lpg or petrol? This post is about converting a carburetted petrol engine to fuel injection petrol engine not about the conversion of petrol engines to run lpg. For the fuel injection conversion you need more than a throttle body as you can see from the pictures posted earlier.Mulisha wrote:If i was to run straight gas all i would need would be a throttle body right?
If that's all i need is there a throttle body to fit onto a TB42 to increase a few more HP?

hey bru thats a bloody awsome idea, im on some other ford forums, and i have heard of ppl doing mpfi conversions to their early cfi e series ea's and also other carbied engines but would have never thought with a little adjustment it would bolt up to this block hmm maby i do have a use for my mates ea after all

Chris at KJ's offroad in geelong, vic has bru21's old setup. its for sale as well ph 03 52228664 if your interested.
No as far as I am aware there is no such thing as a carbed ea. Mine came off an early ea which is Throttle Body injection (which I have heard many call a carb which is simply incorrect). It has 2 injectors in the throttle body only.) The MPFI in my opinion is too much work and expense and I would much rather spend the same money and fit the hole motor, or better still a ba for $1400 odd. The ea package was more of a game to fit rather than for maximum hp etc. Some people play chess, I tinker

early one. no smart lock from a 3 speed auto or a manual ea. the later ones have intergrated auto etc and are more fiddely. fuel injection sorts itself out no tuning required as the motors are essentially the same.
I only drove mine about 20klms, did it for fun before i put the gen 3 in

yeah i had an ea 5 speed and it went harder than the au11 5 speed down low. so much torque. only ment to be 120kw vs 157 of the au11. I never had trouble towing the boat (1300kg) with the ea but shat with the au!

yea if u used an au2 that would be because of the different sensors in the ecu, they run really diff, it could be because of the au2's vct not sure if its there on a manual alto i suspect it is, which would hence ur shit performance cos ur engine wudnt be setup for it, it actually richens out ur fuel, then advances ur cam timing a little to pick up revs faster if u go to full throttle

i ment the cars themselves ie a ea 5 speed sedan, and a au2 5 speed sedan. the computer i had on my truck was ea 3 speed (they only made 500 manuals good luck)

yeah the setup i did was used for about a year and it did the job quite well down low, was realy good on the highway mind you! it had just a 3 speed manual.
problem was my motor had oil pressure problems so it had to go.... but the turbo diesel went in quite nicely today

Honey i cut the car in half!
yea i kno, its just the way the au2 ecu operates is different to our engines im still up for using a wolf ecu tho those things rockbru21 wrote:i ment the cars themselves ie a ea 5 speed sedan, and a au2 5 speed sedan. the computer i had on my truck was ea 3 speed (they only made 500 manuals good luck)

Sorry to re-hash this thread
Does anyone have the gear for sale? I have an 89 TB42S Auto. Would the set-up from the Manual or 3 speed work with the Nissan Auto?
Also, I have a dual fuel set-up. I know EA's ran happily enough on LPG, would this set-up have any effect on the existing LPG system (I am assuming I would just position my Mixer ontop of the Falcon Throttle Body? It's a Sprint Gas New Gen mixer by the way).
Any info (or the emailed Diagrams for the EA mentioned above) would be appreciated!
Cheers

Can any1 help out as I'm interested in this conversion but all the pics just come up as an X. i would like to look at these pics before i go any further.

I have done the efi conversion - Falcon EA to P40 engined MQ - and it has worked very well . There is a write-up and pictures at
http://www.rmp-o.com/phpbb/viewtopic.ph ... hlight=efi under the heading "Fuel injected G60".
Some comments I would make on the conversion are.
Don't use the Ford factory Ecu but an aftermarket one such as Megasquirt. That way you can tailor the fuel map to your specific engine and use. The Falcon revs up to 6000rpm or so and the P40 and presumably the 4.2L GQ only to 4,000 or thereabourts. Max torque and power will occur at different points on the torque curve for each engine. So the factory ecu fuel map will not be optimum for your engine and use.
We spent a lot of time tweaking our fuel map for offroad use. For example we would drive a steep bank logging the variables to a laptop, examine the log and then tweak the fuel map with the laptop and drive the bank again. You can't do that with the factory ecu.
Also with an ecu such as the Megasquirt you can convert to efi (fuel only) using the original dizzy for ignition. Once you have got the fuel sorted you can then change to the Ford TFI ignition as in the Falcon or better still the Ford EDIS system which does away with the distributor entirely and is controlled by the megasquirt. I have the bits for EDIS but have not yet got round to installing it. Trying to do fuel and spark at the same time can be frustrating as there are too many variables.
The efi conversion has made a huge difference to the old P40 engine and best of all it runs happily on steep hills without flooding.

THREAD DIG!!!
After doing the real Nissan EFI conversion on my TB42 that I got cheap my mate now wants EFI so we started looking into doing this.
Everything looks straight forward, runs a MAP sensor instead of a AFM which makes it a bit easier.
The only issue I have come across is the Dizzy graft. I am looking to keep the standard patrol lower, gut the internals out and make a flat top for it. Then the EA one will have shaft cut off the bottom and just the rotor button and sensor grafted to the TB42 shaft. The EA upper will bolt to the flat plate on the TB42 one.
Only possible way I can think of doing this.
Has anyone done this conversion and still has any info or pics on it? The Nissan EFI setups these days are up around $1k, whole running EA cost $100 so we can sort of see why this might be popular.

Re: cheap custom fuel injection pics added inc ute pics
Thanks heaps for those. It looks like you just used the complete ford dizzy as is? Did you cut the ford dizzy below the mount and weld on the patrol shaft and gear?
The rest of it looks quite simple and is much how we planned on doing it.
