defender/county 110 rear shock upgrade

Post by jsttry »

As posted in the general section, I'm in the market for some new rear shocks for the County. I'm not looking for sizes rather than brand selection.

1985 County 110 with 2" lift and currently running 41mm Rockcrawlers

Current shock is 510mm when sitting stationary from centre of eye to bottom mount. There is 70mm travel before rear starts to leave the ground and springs are 25mm dislocated at this point (running cones inside the coils).

One shock manufacturer suggested a 570mm shock which is listed as standard replacement for a defender +35mm. Considering the lift and the extra travel would a 620mm shock cause me any problems with upwards travel or am I going to have to get new top mounts (in which case I might as well go up to a 670mm).

Would like to do more but can't justify anything outrageous as money would be better spent on lockers.

Are you saying you have a 580mm extended length shock? Procomp 923573 is 592mm extended and should be perfect. Well priced at $125 each.
620mm is probably cutting it a bit fine without extended bump stops or raised top mount.

Not sure mark, they are the measurements my local OL store asked me to take. The Tough Dog shock is apparently 560mm so I'd assume would be a little too short.
